Does the Microsft Basic Display Adapter use the GPU? My GPU is having problems and Im wondering if it is the drivers fault or the hardware. So if the Microsft Basic Display Adapter is working properly and my GPU's driver does not, does this mean it has to be a driver issue or could it possibly be a hardware issue?

  3. Display Adapter Competing With Microsft Basic Display Leads to Crashes

Display Driver Issue. I have an HP desktop, kind of old. I'm using Windows 10. I am supposed to be using an AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series display adapter. However, when it is enabled, it seems to be competing with Microsoft Basic Display. I get a black screen
when AMD is enabled. I then have to go into SafeMode, and disable AMD. Then, with Basic, everything works fine. But, the moment I try to enable AMD = black screen.

This is important because Basic alone does not provide the high resolution I got from AMD. I have a big screen, and Basic's best resolution sucks. It gives me headaches, literally, and makes me feel dizzy after 15 minutes.

HP does not have a driver for Windows 10, however, Microsoft's website suggests that Windows Update should automatically fix this. As noted above, Windows Update has not fixed this issue.

This problem started one week ago. Before then, I would simply wait for Windows to reinstall AMD, then I would uninstall it - my good resolution would remain, but AMD would be gone. All would work well. I am assuming some genius kid at Microsoft tried to
do something intelligent with a Windows Update recently, leading to the present annoying problem.

  4. Microsft Basic Display Adapter

The graphics driver shows as “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter” after upgrading to Windows 10

    Hi,

With regard to your query, your Display Adapter is listed as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of the correct driver name. If you have recently update your display card driver, and this problem comes along, what we can try to do here is to roll the
display adapter's driver back to it's previous version.

    Please follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display Adapter's category, and right-click Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, select
      Properties.
    • Under Driver tab, choose Roll Back
      Driver.

If rolling back the driver is unavailable, update the display driver manually.

    • In Device Manager, expand Display
adapter's category and right-click Microsoft Basic
      Display Adapter, and select Properties.
    • Under Driver tab, choose Update Driver.
    • Select Browser my computer for driver software.
    • Click the Browse button, then navigate to the folder where you place the downloaded display card driver setup file.
    • Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

    Let us know the result.
