  1. Microsoft account appears to be provided by an ISP

This started with problems from a Windows Update August 16, 2020. As one of several ways to "roll it back," I needed to access my MS account, thinking if I had my account PW I could do the advanced recovery steps. Turns out that, even though I am the "administrator," my PW did not work, but that is another story.

When I tried accessing my MS account, I could not remember my password. I tried the various verification steps and initially could not verify my account. Later, I followed a different set of steps, and was able to get into the account, changed my PW, etc. Since then I reset my computer and accessed my account to re-download software from the MS store which I had purchased in the past. So, I have no problems accessing my account after the initial problem.

In the meantime, early on in this saga, I got an email from MS saying I had to complete certain information to verify my account, as they had a record I was locked out. As I had continued to have problems due to the update, and thought this could be due to the "account access" issue MS detected, I provided that information this weekend, and today got an email saying my account info/access could not be verified, as the account was provided by an ISP. MS said they could not verify me, and I would need to follow up with the ISP to get access. Meantime, I have been able to access my account all the while, with my new password, set a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, I don't know what the deal is regarding this ISP reference, as my ISP, Verizon, has nothing to do with my MS account. Around the time I set up the MS account YEARS ago 2014, I may have still had AOL dial-up yes, it's true., though AOL had nothing to do with setting up my MS account. My email for my account IS still an AOL email, however.

Anyway, since I now have account access through my new password, do I need to be concerned about this recent email, referencing having to contact my ISP? AOL is not my ISP and technically speaking probably never was.

I guess I am concerned about security of my account, even though I now have access I've been able to use it successfully for 2 weeks now.

    Thanks.

    Anne

    :)
