  2. We need to fix your [non-extant] Microsoft account

The following notification pops up every time I log in: "We need to fix your Microsoft account (most likely your password has changed). Select here to fix it in Shared experiences settings."

When I click on the link, a defunct account appears. This account was deleted so many years ago I forgot about it, so there is no fixing it. This is obviously not my actual Microsoft account which works just fine.

Any suggestions on getting the erroneous notification to cease?

What means "We need to fix your Microsoft account"??

    Hi,

We would like to ask for more information about your concern so we could provide a proper resolution. Kindly answer the following questions:

    • Are you also using your Microsoft account from a different machine?
    • Since when have you been experiencing this issue? Were there any changes made on your account prior to this?

Since the affected machine is dedicated to offline activities, we suggest that you switch your user profile to a local user account. To do this:

    • Go to Settings.
    • Select Accounts.
    • Click Your account.
    • Look for a link labeled “Sign in with a local account instead” and click it.
    • You will be required to enter your password again for account confirmation. Then, click
      Next.
    • You will now create a new local username and password. Then, click
      Next.
    • Lastly, a confirmation of the process and a reminder that changes will only affect the local login and not your Microsoft account. Click
      Sign out and finish.

We look forward to your response.
