Microsoft acknowledges two new issues in Windows 10 April 2018 Update patch

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft rolled out a cumulative update (KB4462933) for Windows 10 version 1803. The cumulative update was rolled out on October 24 for users who have installed Windows 10 April 2018 Update and it fixed several issues with the OS.

The cumulative update came with fixes for BSOD issue which occurred while removing the Bluetooth devices from the computer along with fixing a bug which prevented the launch of Windows Defender Application Guard.

The company back then not acknowledged any issues in the cumulative update but Microsoft has quietly updated the support document to confirm two bugs hitting Windows 10.

Microsoft says that the cumulative update has broken the Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge. Launching this menu will no longer work on PCs with Windows 10 version 1803.

As a temporary workaround, Microsoft has suggested users on Windows 10 x64 to log in with an administrator account and delete the below file:

    “C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe\microsoft.system.package.metadata\Autogen\JSByteCodeCache_64.”

The users running Windows on an x86 machine would need to delete the below file and restart the browser:

    “C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe\microsoft.system.package.metadata\Autogen\JSByteCodeCache_32”

The second issue which Microsoft has acknowledged is a bug that occurs after installing the August Preview of Quality Rollup or September 11, 2018, .NET Framework update. After installation, there will be an exception with the instantiation of SqlConnection.

As a temporary workaround, Microsoft has detailed the points to manually resolve the issue. You can find the solution to the issue by clicking here.

Microsoft is expected to fix the above reported or acknowledged issues in the upcoming November Patch Tuesday update which is to be released on November 13.

Till then users are advised to resolve the above-mentioned issues with the temporary workarounds provided or wait for the company to roll out the next Patch Tuesday Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1803.

  2. Microsoft blocks Windows 10 April Update for Intel SSD 600p Series

Microsoft is blocking some Intel SSDs from installing the April 2018 Update after discovering an incompatibility issue that causes performance and stability issues. In short, the problem was explained by Microsoft as: “When attempting to upgrade to Window 10 April 2018 Update select devices with certain Intel SSDs may enter a UEFI screen reboot or crash repeatedly.” Microsoft says that this issue has no workaround and that those that have attempted to update Windows 10 to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update should revert back to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709.

Unfortunately, the announcement by Microsoft fails to list what specific Intel SSD models are having issues with the OS update. We contacted Intel and discovered that the Intel SSD 600p Series of client drives that was first introduced to the market in 2016 is the most popular drive that is having issues.
