    Forgot about something:
    - Go into BIOS Setup, disable AMD Cool & Quiet and/or PowerNow!
    - In Windows, change power plan to High Performance
Did bump into something similar, the reason the cpu usage was very high was because the cpu was running in low power mode, underclocked heavily.

Open Task Manager and Click on the Performance Tab at the top of the window. Open several programs and watch the chart on the right and the values at the bottom. values in the extreme i.e. greater than 75% will show that this system as currently configured cannot operate with win 10 installed. I do monitor the CPU, GPU and system temperatures also and values above 50° C (about 120° F) are my warning benchmarks where I begin to watch the temps. A higher temps from 50° C is not normal for this system. 75° C and above is an indication that real bad things are about to happen with your system. Like crash maybe or if the temperature safety shut down feature is no longer working well, goodbye computer.

I would say forget about paying for further support. Since it was suggested that Kaspersky was the problem just uninstall it yourself to see if that changes things for the better. You can always put it back on later if it is not the cause of the problem. Regarding "infection" it is a classic ruse of many dubious tech support companies to suggest that your computer has a virus that you have to pay them to remove. Download MalwareBytes Antimalware (MBAM) from a reputable Windows software site, such as Softpedia or Majorgeeks. MBAM will find and remove any malware on the system and if it doesn't find anything the odds are extremely high that there isn't anything.

That webpage (funkyjunkinteriors.net/about) uses a lot of CPU for me also on Edge (far more than any other page I've been able to find). What is it like with a different page (like this forum)?

This is all true, and no offense to you either, but this is not how Microsoft has presented the Windows 10 upgrade. The GWX app declares systems compatible based on a very superficial compatibility check and in many cases further research indicates that they are not compatible. In fact there have been instances where the OEM directly cautions people not to upgrade certain systems to Windows 10, but this is not reflected in the GWX app. And have you seen Microsoft advising caution and stating something along the lines of "OS upgrades are at best a 90% successful activity"? I haven't. Under the circumstances I feel that the grievances users have about failed upgrades have some legitimacy.

    Vicky.
A friend had a computer which was running almost at a standstill.
Solved by uninstalling Kaspersky, Using ADWcleaner and Hitman Pro then MBAM.
After running the three above cleaners there were literally hundreds and I mean HUNDREDS of pups that needed cleaning.
    Afterward you can reinstall Kaspersky

  12. to find your bios, restart pc while tapping the delete key until bios appears. First though, use the "dxdiag" run command (without the quotation marks)to see what version of the bios you currently have. Type run in search, type dxdiag in the run open search box. Your PC manufacture should have the most current bios version for you machine on their website in the support drivers and bios section.
    good luck

I haven't dealt with Microsoft support for a while, but MS used to outsource their support. The people at the other end of the phone line appeared to be poorly trained and poorly paid script readers. If the problem doesn't appear on their screens, they're helpless. I imagine that the preferred way of dealing with that is to pass the buck.

Microsoft doesn't write drivers specific to third party hardware. If the drivers aren't included in the Windows installation or from Windows Update, the PC will probably run, but not well. I speculate that's what is happening here.

Whether AMD has provided good drivers for the PC in question (760G chipset), I'm not sure. I see that Asus offers no drivers newer than Win 7, which leads me to believe that they expect the best drivers to be present in the Windows installation. (The machine is supposed to support 8.1, which means that it ought to be OK under 10 as well.) The last BIOS update for the PC was in early 2012. That's not old chronologically, but it doesn't assure that it is fully supported by Asus or anyone else.

When MS offered 10 as a free upgrade through Windows Update, I wondered how well they were prepared to support people for whom the upgrade didn't go smoothly. The answer appears to be: not well enough. I imagine that the people who were most likely to get into trouble were mostly the same people who aren't familiar with the phrase "image your boot drive".

For most people with Windows 7, I suggest not going to 10. Just not worth the risk. While Win 8 is newer, I suggest upgrading from that, mainly because I thought that the integration of the desktop with the interface once known as Metro was really poor (and I thought that Metro was not the way to go on a desktop PC).

If you can get back to 7, perhaps using OS restore disks acquired from Asus, that may be the most agreeable solution. It's probably possible to modify a regular Windows 7 installation to use the SLP key in the machines BIOS, but I haven't done anything like that in a few years.

Probably a lot of Java Scripts, advertising related and otherwise. When I ran noscript in Firefox, allowing just the top site,
it pretty much tamed the CPU issues @ funkyjunkinteriors.net.
