    Somewhere back in 2006 Vista era I think. I was part of an enterprise user group and had paid ms support. I only used it once to get help setting up my system clock to refresh every 15 minutes. MS english speaking level 4 techs from Remond could not solve this problem over the course of several days. I finally solved this problem myself through web search. It turns out MS had the answer on their own web site: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/816042.. I cancelled the ms support and have not called MS since to resolve any issues. The end.

    My problem will not be going away. I finally talked with someone from Asus who said there is no driver for Win 10 for my computer as some of you pointed out. When I asked him why someone didn't tell me that in my very first call to them, he said, "Well we won't say it doesn't work because it really does work....just not very well." After my rant, he said I could try the driver for 8.1 but it could trash the system so I won't be doing that. He offered me a 25% discount on the Win 7 program and I thanked him very much (not). *Mad I'm going to take a couple of days to think about what I want to do but I really want to thank each of you for taking the time to try to help me. I learn a lot from these forums....even though I can't always immediately use the knowledge.

    Thanks, again.

    Don't you have the rollback option anymore?

    @Vicky

    I suggest you try to roll back your OS to 7 first, then we can work to see whether or not you have a hardware problem, software problem, both, or if 10 is suitable for your PC.

    Did your computer come with recovery media, ask you to make recovery media upon the very first boot after purchase, or has a recovery partition?

    Please press Windows key + X > Choose Disk Management > Maximize the window if necessary > Take a snip of the screen and post here. You may have to enlarge the lower segment by holding your pointer over the line, hold with left mouse button, and drag it up. It'll look like below..

    BTW, Pics here on the forum can be enlarged by left clicking on the pic. When finished viewing press Esc key or left click on any part of the page other than the pic.

    I don't recall anywhere Microsoft saying "Your system is 100% compatible with Windows 10, you will have no problems whatsoever performing an upgrade, we guarantee it".

    Are there signs posted every 5 feet on every major road that says "WARNING, crossing the road may result in death"? No, at some point people have to take responsibility for things themselves. If they can't take that responsibility, they should find someone that can.

    It's simply common sense that a major upgrade may not succeed, and anyone who uses a computer should know to make backups regularly. Failing to do so is not MS's fault.

    There soon will be. To go with the other nannying "Smoking Kills", "Drink in moderation", "Eat 5 Fruit/vegetable" a day" warnings you can't avoid these days *Wink

    Not really. When I loaded 10586 on my wife's laptop. Windows 10 was only using 1.97 GB with Chrome and Office 2013 open.

    Only if they plan on doing some RAM intensive tasks. Then if the motherboard is capable of being bumped up. I say go for it, if you can get the RAM on sale.

    Well, that would obviously be unrealistic. I'm simply suggesting that more work ( a lot more) could have been put into the compatibility checking component of the GWX upgrader.

    You and I know this, but average users don't. They have no way of assessing the risk and so they rely on Microsoft, the OEMs, and other professionals for guidance. The "pros" should give realistic advice IMHO, but unfortunately that conflicts with the goals of marketing.

    Regarding backups the ability to create system images and reinstall the OS if the upgrade fails is beyond what the average user is capable of. And no it's not Microsoft's fault, but wouldn't you agree that it's in Microsoft's interest that people succeed and over all have a positive perception?
