Windows 10: Microsoft Azure IoT Device Agent V2 Public Preview now available

We are excited to announce the availability of the public preview of Microsoft Azure IoT Device Agent V2 for Windows 10 IoT. Customers across industries, whether in an industrial setting or retail environment, are looking for ways to remotely provision and manage their IoT devices. Direct device access may not always be feasible when IoT devices are out in the field or on the factory floor. Microsoft Azure IoT Device Agent enables operators to configure, monitor and manage their devices remotely from their Azure dashboard. Microsoft Azure IoT Device Agent provides an open-source, ready to build package that does the following:

creates and manages the Azure IoT Hub identities on the device

manages the cloud connection and its renewal

provides a plug-in model for platform components, which allows easy onboarding to various Azure services, including discovery, initialization, error reporting and state aggregation

comes with a set of ready-to-ship plug-ins for commonly used platform components

leverages Azure IoT Module twin such that a separate UWP app is no longer required in order to connect to Azure IoT Hub

Microsoft Azure IoT Device Agent V2 is available for both Windows 10 IoT Enterprise- and Windows 10 IoT Core-based devices and includes the following open-source libraries and executables out of the box:

Limpet.exe that allows local processes to use TPM for storing and retrieving Azure connection strings

Azure IoT Hub Device Provisioning Service (DPS) client that enables zero-touch, just-in-time provisioning to the right Azure IoT Hub

Azure IoT Hub Device Management (DM) client that provides remote device management capabilities such as device info, certificate management, factory reset, reboot management, remote wipe, time management, Windows telemetry management and Windows update management

Windows 10 IoT enables the complete IoT lifecycle

Microsoft recently announced the public preview of the Azure IoT Hub Device Provisioning Service. The Device Provisioning Service is a new service that works with Azure IoT Hub to enable “zero-touch” device provisioning to an IoT hub. Using this service, devices can be created with a common image, and when booted for the first time in the field, the Device Provisioning Service will automatically provide the device specific provisioning information, including the correct Azure IoT Hub location and identity where the device can be further provisioned and customized using Azure device management. The Device Provisioning Service is designed to support very high device volumes, enabling the provisioning of millions of devices in a secure and scalable manner, automating what historically has been a complex and time-consuming process for customers handling high volumes of connected IoT devices. The Azure IoT Hub Device Provisioning Service aligns well with our Windows 10 IoT device scenarios and features. Along with the Device Provisioning Service public preview, we are also providing sources for a complete Windows 10 IoT client that implements a client service with the required functionality to quickly enable a device to use the Device Provisioning Service, requiring only minimal configuration information. When used in conjunction with the existing Windows 10 IoT Azure Device Management client, it forms a complete device provisioning and management solution, covering the complete lifecycle needs of an IoT device.

The Windows 10 IoT device provisioning client is provided as a source that can be used as is, to provide basic scenario functionality, or customized if desired. The implementation as provided requires a supported Windows 10 IoT TPM to be present, which is used to securely store device identification and authentication information. The same configuration information is used by both the device provisioning and the device management client samples, enabling both to work in concert with one another.

The Windows 10 IoT client for the Azure IoT Device Provisioning Service is located at ms-iot/iot-azure-dps-client, including a step by step process for building and using the client service with the Azure IoT Device Provisioning Service public preview.

Free trial version of Microsoft Azure IoT Suite for understanding and experimentation

I want to use Microsoft Azure IoT Suite for understanding and experimentation.

Basically I want to develop a sample application using Azure IoT.

For that I click on link “Free Trial” -> “Try It Now“, options available on Microsoft Azure IoT web site.

Then It take me to the page where I need to sign up with page title as Microsoft Azure.

If I use my personal account to log in to Microsoft Azure web site, on sign up page for Azure IoT it asks me credit card details.

And when I use my professional account (provided by my company) then it does not ask for credit card details, why so?

Also when I login to Microsoft Azure IoT using my professional account and when sign up for Microsoft Azure,

will it get charged to my professional account?

For now I need free trial only.
