Microsoft confirms Edge browser is broken in Windows 10 version 1809 on some PCs

Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 October 2018 Update appears to be broken for some users. The users have explained that Edge and other apps might not connect to the internet after upgrading the PCs to Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

“For example, Microsoft Edge is unable to connect to any websites, displaying the message, ‘Hmmm…can’t reach this page’. Apps like Mail, Calendar, and News are not working properly,” a user writes on Microsoft forum.

It’s not a widespread issue as the bug seems to be impacting the devices that have the IPv6 connection disabled. It’s a unusual behaviour and Microsoft has acknowledged it in a forum post.

The web browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and even Internet Explorer are working as expected. Some users on Twitter has also confirmed the issue with the Edge browser in Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

Installing Build 1809 of Windows 10 seems to stop Edge working. So, y’know, don’t be me and do it. Poor show @Microsoft

    — Sam (@SamarydMk2) October 4, 2018

“Microsoft is aware of an issue after installing the Windows 10 October 2018 update (version 1809) that prevents Microsoft Store apps from connecting to the Internet on devices that have disabled IPv6. Microsoft is working on a solution that is planned to be released in a future Windows update,” Microsoft employee Paul and forum moderator explains.

Fix the broken Microsoft Edge after installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update

To fix ‘Hmm, can’t reach this page’ error in Microsoft Edge and other broken apps, do the following:

    • Open the Settings app via the Start menu or Cortana/Search in the box.
    • Select Networking & Internet and open Network and Sharing Center.
    • Select the network adapter you’re using.
    • On the Networking tab, select the checkbox next to Internet Version 6 (TCP/IPv6 and save the changes by clicking on OK.

Microsoft is developing a built-in ad blocker for its Edge browser

"One of the first browser add-ons many people install to improve their online experience is Adblock Plus or something similar. Until recently, Microsoft Edge's lack of support for add-ons put off a lot of would-be users, but reports from Build 2016 suggest that native ad blocking is on its way to the Internet Explorer successor.

Adblock Plus is coming to Edge, but built-in ad blocking would negate the need for such an add-on. A slide shown off and snapped at a Build presentation shows that the next version of Edge, in response to user feedback, will feature ad blocking capabilities. There's no word on delivery timescale, but the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update would seem a likely candidate.

ZDNet's Ed Bott photographed the slide which shows Microsoft's development roadmap built around feedback from testers. Right at the top of the list is reference to plans to create a plugin and extension store for Edge, but it's entry number four that's more intriguing.

"Build ad blocking features into the browser" is listed as a Feature Request from users. But the good news is that it is not only listed as being "Deliverable 4682811", but as "Targeted for the next version".

This will no doubt come as good news for those who have fallen in love with Edge, but it's not something that will be welcomed by the likes of Adblock Plus. It does seem that, particularly in the mobile arena, there is a move to baking ad blocking into the browser so it makes sense that Microsoft is following the trend. But it is the fact that Edge straddles Windows 10 on the desktop and Windows 10 Mobile that makes this a particularly interesting move.

Keep an eye out for Insider builds in the coming weeks as the feature may be just around the corner.

    Microsoft Edge has stopped woorking

    Hello,

There may be a number of reasons why suddenly Edge would stop working. The first troubleshooting step that we can try is to run the troubleshooter for Windows apps. Check out
this link for more information and download link for the troubleshooter.

If the above step won't work, we also suggest resetting Edge. For this, follow the steps below:

    • Close Microsoft Edge browser.
    • On the Cortana search bar, type Default App settings.
    • Click on Microsoft Edge (the list may not include Edge if your operating system is not on Creators Update.)
    • Under Microsoft Edge, click Advanced options.
    • Click the Reset button and confirm.
    • Restart your PC.
Note: Your PC must be updated to the latest version of Windows for this troubleshooter.

Let us know how it goes.

Microsoft Edge Browser Gets Windows Defender Application Guard Feature

Microsoft made its Edge browser run inside a virtual computer. This means that it's kept separate from processes such as storage, as well as the Windows 10 Kernel, so if browser got hacked, it will be contained within the virtual PC and won't affect the rest of the computer.

However for now it seems that this feature is only available for Windows 10 Enterprise. But back in the day Windows To Go was Enterprise exclusive now it's available for Pro version. Maybe someday this will happen with this new stuff
