  1. Microsoft Edge performance and efficiency

For many people who have almost exclusively used Modern and Desktop IE, do you guys notice that Microsoft Edge consumes far more RAM and much higher idle CPU usage than Modern/Desktop IE?

One way to test this is to open cnn.com on both browsers one at a time and observe how much CPU and RAM Microsoft Edge consumes compared to IE. Browser power efficiency is critical for me as I use a tablet primarily.

Also, as an option for those using Intel CPUs, you can download a temperature/CPU frequency monitoring program to see the idle CPU usage for both browsers

    :)

  2. After update Windows 10 is a mess

    Hi Norma,

We understand that you would like to use the Microsoft Edge after the update. This issue may occur for several reasons like a corruption has happened while updating or a corruption within your user profile. In order for us to efficiently you, we just have
    few questions for you:

    • Are you referring to the Creators Update?
    • Have you tried using the search/Cortana to look for Microsoft Edge and Windows Solitaire?
    • Have you tried pinning one of your applications to the Start to check if it is working?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you already performed?

    Regards.

Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge have made many performance advances in the Chakra JavaScript engine, with the goal of running JavaScript code faster and creating a consistent experience for users.

In Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge, Chakra’s JIT compiler and the execution pipeline have been optimized such that Chakra can now efficiently inline functions that are defined across JavaScript files, without losing the performance benefits achieved via inlining.
This optimization enables a lot more JavaScript code on the existing Web to run faster in Microsoft Edge.

    Microsoft Edge performance and efficiency

I looked at the memory and processor usage of both browsers doing the same things, and it looked like IE11 was using several times more memory than Edge as well as far more processor time than Edge. Edge was created as a Universal Windows Platform app that could run well on everything from desktops down to phones.

I noticed that after a while it becomes very unstable when watching a video after 1-2 hours.

It went full screen instead of closing and took a while to accept the command to close as well.

I like it as a browser but I do find it's stability to be somewhat lacking after longer stints of usage.

  7. Glad I'm not the only one. After browsing a while, each of those tabs will eat more and more CPU and RAM even when idle then slow down considerably. I like the Edge functionality wise, but I need the stability and efficiency of IE 11 since my battery is cut in 1/2 by just using Edge exclusively.

Edge is far more stable than IE11 for me. Can't use something that always crash.

  9. Something wrong with your IE though. Mine extremely rarely crashes. It also gives me an extra hour battery life compared to any browsers
