    Microsoft edge problems

I've downloaded Win 10 (free upgrade) and I love it, but the windows edge is another matter, I seem to be having constant problems with spam and spyware/BHO, type things eversince, and the program is slow in general. I have an anti-virus installed, but can't seem to get into win edge to fix the problems, can't find how to choose toolbars, or see whats in them. I use Windows explorer most of the time and I know you cannot uninstall win edge, I like it except for these problems, any advice is much appreciated!*Smile

you could change your default browser to IE11 instead of Edge. option #2 is install another browser like Chrome. I personally do not use edge because it lacks so many features, just is not worth the trouble. Windows in a new install sets Edge as your default browser.

Almost forgot.... Welcome to Windows Ten Forum Margie!!!

I am also new to Windows 10.
Finally got an upgrade or update (not sure what the difference is) to 1511 build 10586.29.
I have mixed emotions! I am using 8.1 on my desktop and it is trying to Install 10 but so far I have declined.
    My main problem is EDGE!!!!
It doesn't seem to make any sense!!!! With the new down ---- there is some sort of a tool bar but I can't find any use for it.
I tried reverting to ie but it runs so slow on 10 I feel like I'm back to dial up!!!
I am a User and BIG FAN of RoboForm and have been using it for about 10 years. As you can imagine, I must have 100 passwords stored on it, and can't use it with EDGE>
That is a deal breaker for me!!!
Until RoboForm and Microsoft make some sort of agreement, I am staying with 8.1 on the desktop, and would revert back to 7 on this computer, but I have waited to long.

Ok 1st off, I have been using RoboForm for about the same length of time myself. 9 or 10 years, can't remember. Anyhow, I use IE11 with RoboForm, runs fast, no slow downs at all, I have Windows 10 Pro installed on both my computers. Networked together. Again, no problems. If your IE11 runs THAT slow you might have problems somewhere either because of too many addon's or something just not set right. Also could be other issues, hard too tell at the moment. Bottom line is IE11 can run with no problems, IF computer is setup right. BIG IF on this part.
Another choice thou, is you could install a browser like Chrome or Firefox, RoboForm works with either version. Chrome is a lot fast than IE11 also. Even on my computer. Just somethings you can think about, that's all.

Also.... Welcome to Windows 10 Forum Bud33!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Mike*Smile. I do use IE11, I do not like Edge, for the same reasons you stated. I attempted to download chrome, but it was acting strangely, with pop-ups and malware-type behavior. I do have IE11 as default. I have Norton Anti-Virus installed, even though I don't think its the best. I also use a free program to find virus/Trojans and BHO's called Herd-Protect. It found several BHO's after I tried to install chrome. Again, my computer was fine, until Edge was installed, and its slow*really. I only use Edge, to play games from facebook! (Farmville 2) *Biggrin, since on IE11, flashplayer crashes, but ok on Edge. Hmmm.

I agree with you on many points Bud. Why do they ask if you have the 'free' upgrade or otherwise? Is there a difference? What I like about Win 10, is the classic menu style, my laptop came with 8, installed, but I hated the charms and tiles and all that stuff. But I'm wondering if it was worth it now, after having the problems I've been having as I stated in my post, no trouble with slow moving, and malware/spammy behavior when I had Win 8.1!

Try running the free version of Malwarebytes, its pretty darn good. I use the Pro version, and Its runs right along side my Nortons 360 with no problems. As far as chrome goes, I run that too, its faster than IE11 and gives me no problems at all. But if you don't like chrome, try Firefox, lots of choices. Norton should have protected you from malicious sites, strange that it didn't. You could also install the free CCleaner too, just to help keep your computer clean and lean. These are just suggestions Margie. Enjoy your stay here at Ten forums!!! *Smile

Edge doesn't support BHO's or any ActiveX for that matter, so it's not really possible for you to be having BHO problems in Edge. I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

Edge doesn't have toolbars (other than the favorites bar). So there's no way to select something that doesn't exist.

  11. Try not to use EDGE. The more you do, the more problems you'll find and the faster you will AGE!

Over the past month, a volley of updates (fixes?) arrived for Windows 10. In the hope that perhaps Microsoft got around to bringing Edge up to at least the functionality that IE-6 had back in 2004, I opened Edge today. Findings: It's still more like IE-3 was in 1999.

Tried to print page 1 of a 2 page document, and it wasted my ink by printing page 2. So, I ask it to print page 2, thinking that it would print page 1. Crazy Edge printed page 2. Because it was a secure document that was a pain to get to in the first place, I just went ahead and chose "ALL" pages in order to get page 1.

I see there's still no way for Edge's back button to be pressed down for navigating back to specific, already-visited pages, within a website either. The "Edge Project" must be where they assign all the bright 3rd graders participating in Microsoft's "brain exchange" program.

It's hardly surprising that a browser that is only a few months old wouldn't be as mature as browsers that have been around for over a decade. Most people forget that when other browsers, like Firefox, Chrome, etc.. were first released, they too did not have all the features they have now. It takes time for a browser to mature.

Having said that, Edges only major faults are in the User Interface. The browser rendering engine is far superior (in most cases) than every other browser out there. And that is where MS has spent the majority of their work on it. The User Interface still lacks things like plug-ins, and the UI itself lacks a lot of features people are used to in other browsers (back button issues you mentioned, for instance, but also things like movable toolbars.

Then again, other browsers don't have features like Reading mode and Web Annotations (although some are starting to add something like it), Or OpenSearch API support. Still, MS apparently is working hard to shore up the shortcomings.

  13. Microsoft edge problems

Mystere, if you or I were to invent a car named Internet Explorer, tweak/improve it for 20 years, and then invent a new model, named Edge, wouldn't we know to put basics, such as power windows, air conditioning, and a radio, in our spanking new Edge vehicle?

IMO, Microsoft is so enrgrossed with squeezing a few more horses out of the engine, that the company neglected to install many basic niceties...and a few critical components.

But if your analysis of Microsoft's current focus is correct, we have reason to be optimistic that Edge will soon receive the niceties that were omitted. The sooner the better, because I do like Edge for basic web browsing.

Windows 10, and Edge being an app for Windows 10 (just like other apps built-in like the Mail app, etc..) are all works in progress. Windows 10 is being designed in a very different way from previous OS's, in that they use a process where they release a product in the early stages, and then slowly, based on user feedback, add more features over time. This is in contrast to them simply doing everything in secret and then releasing a product without any major outside feedback, which is what they've been doing previously.

The "doing it secret" part has resulted in some spectacular failures, and the new process while not fast enough for many people (who are used to the full final product being released all at once) is making inroads. But, you can't please everyone, as there will be people with opposite opinions on how things should go. Some people are going to feel ignored or snubbed, while others get what they want.

  15. Writing on 21st Dec 2015, EDGE has in the last 24 hours decided to resize everything to about 3/4 linear dimension. That appears to be roughly changing 11pt font (of this website on a 20in monitor) to 8pt font. I'm NOT talking about the reading mode - just the regular mode. All the pictures also scale accordingly

Of course there are no knobs to twiddle to fix it.

I note there was a Win 10 update over the weekend which may be relevant?

When I say unreadably, I mean it. 65 years old, eye sight not that great. I don't do 8pt font. So I'll be changing to Explorer for a while until this gets fixed. Shame, 'cos I'd just about made friends with EDGE as its pretty quick and that offsets all its foibles - for me anyway.

Anyone know what's going on? or whether there is anywhere I can rescale the size?
