Windows 10: microsoft ergonomic keyboard 4000 attaching unnecessary characters

not sure if this is the correct place to post this, because the issue happens even when my microsoft keyboard is not used on my laptop with windows 10. the question is specific to my keyboard and the OS used doesn't seem to affect the problem.


my keyboard randomly started attaching unnecessary characters to some keys. here is a list of the affected keys:


k types k1

l types l2

5 types 5-

up arrow types 6

` and g both type as `g

h and - both type as -h

; and numpad 3 both type ;3

' and = both type ='

backspace and numpad enter both enter to a new line once, but then are stuck on that line -- pushing the key again seems to hit backspace and enter simultaneously but each keystroke ends on the same line (it backspace but then immediately enters again)


this started out of nowhere and i have used the keyboard for many months with no issue, so i assume i accidentally toggled a setting somehow. i tried rebooting and also checked my drivers. the OSK does not have the same issue and works fine. i plugged the keyboard into a different laptop which is running linux and it does the same thing, so it is clearly something to do with the specific keyboard and not the device the keyboard is plugged into.

I suggest you to connect the keyboard to a different computer and check if the issue persists.

If the keyboard does not function correctly on another computer, the keyboard maybe defective. If this is the case, and the warranty on the keyboard is still valid, you may exchange the defective keyboard for a new keyboard.

If the keyboard works fine on a different computer, try the methods listed below:

Method 1

Adjust Language settings:

• Open Settings and click on Time and Language.
  
• Choose Region and Language and make sure the language you’re using on your keyboard (the input language) matches the one you’re using on your PC (the display language).
  

Method 2

Update driver manually:

Install the latest drivers from Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and check if
it works.

If the issue persists, you may get in touch with
Microsoft Hardware Support for further assistance.

Hello Michael,

In Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 you don't need any of driver to run. Its just run so quickly and you don't need to install any kind of drivers to run this Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.

Still as you already told above that you have installed Drivers then you have to first uninstall Drivers and connect again Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. I hope this might help you out.
