Microsoft Excel min, max, close caption buttons do not use SmCaptionHeight and...

I'm in the process of finalizing a touchscreen application. After a lot of testing it was made apparent certain things would have to be resized in order to have the best/most convenient user experience. Before I continue, this is on Windows 10 version 1809. I navigated to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowsMetrics in order to change the size of the scrollbars and caption buttons for all Windows. I did this by modifying the ScrollHeight and ScrollWidth for caption bars and SmCaptionHeight and SmCaptionWidth for the caption buttons. The problem is that every application seems to abide by these new settings except Microsoft Excel 2013 ( which my application uses heavily ). Excel abides by the new scroll bar settings but NOT the caption settings. This makes it extremely hard to close or minimize the Window since the caption buttons are so small. I think its likely the case that Excel over rides the default WindowsMetrics and uses its own. I would like to know how I can work around this issue and resize the caption buttons in the Excel 2013 window.

    :)

Change Windows Caption Buttons like in Windows 7

Good morning, @Hungaryball ... If I'm understanding correctly, you'd like the look and feel of Win 7, like the title bar "X", min/max, icon size, etc. Give a look here at this app and see if it includes what you are looking for. Lots of options, don't go hog wild without backing up first. Microsoft Excel min, max, close caption buttons do not use SmCaptionHeight and... :)

  3. closed captions

Closed captions are a text version of the spoken part of a television, movie, or computer presentation. Closed captioning was developed to aid hearing-impaired people, but it's useful for a variety of situations. For example, captions can be read when audio
can't be heard, either because of a noisy environment, such as an airport, or because of an environment that must be kept quiet, such as a hospital.

    Closed Captioning

    Hello ClumpyGalaxy297,

Please see this guide on closed captioning.

    Excerpt:

    To turn on closed captioning:

On a Windows 10 PC that’s playing a video, right-click or tap-and-hold anywhere on the video. A menu bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. If closed captioning is available, a CC icon will be displayed.

Tap or click the CC icon.

Tap or click the language you want to see closed captions in. Closed captioning will now appear on your screen.

To turn them off do the opposite and deselect the CC option.
