    this is incredibly frustrating...

I have 4 windows devices for my kids to use for schoolwork.

somehow, they are continuing to be able to circumvent the windows family restrictions I have in place for their accounts on each device.

    For example:

I am finding them logged into devices at times when they are supposed to be kicked off

Apps that I have blocked are being regularly run such as Minecraft

web browsing site restrictions are not consistently enforced I have blocked youtube and yet they are still often able to access it.

I keep the devices updated, they are all running windows 10 home edition

As a parent trying to keep my kids on task with their schooling at home during the covid-19 lockdown, this is driving me F$%ing nuts!

right now I am searching for an alternative...what I am using right now is completely hopeless. It has to be the worst remote security I have had the displeasure of using.

As a parent with young children, on my home network, I should be able to remotely see what they are doing on their screens. I know this is possible because for example, windows sever edition has had this capability for 20 years we used it regularly to check up on students using our school network pc's when I was teaching back in 2003

Surely there has to be a better way of doing Microsoft Family security...its absolutely hopeless as it is right now. Can anyone advise **** is going on here?

I am thinking of moving to another platform completely.

If I were to use say for example, Windows Home Server...I note its no longer in production what is the alternative?

Would this improve my results on the home network security and restricting apps and websites my kids access?

    :)

    Microsoft family restrictions

    Hi,

You actually need your parent to turn off any restrictions on your account. I'm afraid you need to get yourself back to your family temporarily. These are the instructions for an adult account.

    • Go to account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • To remove a child, find their name, then select Content restrictions. Turn off any settings you may have enabled. Then go back to your family’s page, find the child’s name again, and select More options > Remove
      from family.
    • If you want to remove a child because they’re now an adult, or if an adult account has been misclassified as a child account, they’ll need to verify
      their account
      .

I personally think you should be good without doing the third step, but I can't give you a guarantee.

Hope it does the trick. In case of any issues, I'm happy to help you more when needed. If it worked, please mark the answer as helpful.

Microsoft Family not adhearing to the restrictions i have enabled

Google account login not working with Microsoft Family Safety enabled.

I have two Windows 10 computers/accounts that have Microsoft Family Safety enabled for my 13 & 15 year olds. Both are not able to login to their Google accounts via IE11, Edge browser or even the built in mail app. If I disable MS Family Safety on their
accounts, everything (Google account login) works just fine. There are no site restrictions in place and placing Google in the allow list has no effect.

Anyone experience the same problem or have any suggestions.

    THX
