Windows 10: Microsoft has begun pre-loading Windows 10

Being the curious sort, I ran setup.exe from the $Windows.~BT\Sources folder and got an error saying boot.wim is missing.

 

Neither of my 7 and 8.1 is downloading... MS must set some kind of priorities that we don't know about.

 

So i guess the thing about Insiders getting it first wasn't exactly true. The person on the Eight Forum was not an Insider, I am pretty sure.

 

Insiders have had it over a week now.

 

I have an insider pc running windows 10 pro 10240 and another pc running windows 8.1 home. My 8.1 home pc now has a ~BT directory with a 7/28 date. I converted the ESD file within that directory to an ISO and got the following named file:

en_windows_10_home_10240_x64_dvd.iso

So it looks like the insiders already have the latest Windows 10 and 10240 is the July 29 release.

 

Since we had a healthy discussion on this the other day - is the updrate download 3 GB, or is it a smaller update that flips a bit?

 

Same here.. nothing as of yet.. but I'm all set and reserved.

I thought that was already settled. I am still confused on, is it a small 500 mb update that insiders get or is it a 3 gb install plus a 500 mb update?

 

On my Windows 8.1 laptop, I went to Windows Update > Check for Updates, and it's been checking for updates for well over an hour now.

Has anyone else experienced this today?

 

No. But stop the SERVICE (not task) called wuauserv then start it again.

I have it, created on the 12th of July and it is 76.4 megs.

 

Something has brought my Win 10 computer to its knees. My 16 gig i7 pc feels like an old pentium.
I do not have the $Windows file.
I have checked everything I can think of but it is slowwww.
Anybody else experiencing this? I feel that it has to be something to do with the upgrade but I am clueless.

 

Well just reading this post I checked this Win8.1 PC and did not find the BT folder *Sad
So out of curiosity I checked my wife's Win7 home laptop and it wasn't there but I noticed there was a update and shutdown option. So I clicked on the shutdown and it installed a update and when I rebooted the laptop the BT folder was there with date 2015-07-28 at 8:06 am this morning. Just my luck the wife will get the upgrade before me *Sad She only use the laptop for Facebook lol
Will leave mine on all night and hope for best.

Not sure if it was settled or abandoned, but reading more posts today, it appears that the upgrade is the std size (3+ GB) plus the Day One update (500 MB). At least that's what I'm seeing inposts.

I'm relying solely on the information members are posting.
It was not then is not now that important to me, just a curiosity. I asked sgage, because he and I seemed to both say 'no' during the discussion *Tongue
