  1. Microsoft License Verification calls and emails

I've gotten two calls from people claiming to be from MIcrosoft saying I had to participate in some kind of license verification review.

Today I got an email from a 'microsoft.com' email, but included this nugget:

"During these unprecedented times organizations are focusing on cost optimization. With that in mind MACK ENERGY CORPORATION has been selected by Microsoft to complete aLicense Augmentation Review. This review will cover all your Microsoft software and licensing agreements . Your company may be asked to provide Microsoft with a certification that you either have sufficient licenses to permit usage disclosed by the review or that you have ordered sufficient licenses."

Someone please explain why an oil and gas exploration company would be hired by Microsoft for licensing audits?

Does Microsoft really do this audits / reviews and how do we tell them apart from the scammers?

    :)

Microsoft License Verification calls and emails

Microsoft License Verification Process - is this Spam?

The company I work for (Datalight, Inc) received a few calls via voicemail, and a follow up email with the title:

"DATALIGHT (xxxxxxx): Microsoft License Verification Process"

...(with an actual number after our company name), as well as 6 attachments including an introduction letter, and a spreadsheet entitled "DS- Depolyment Summary English", and I've seen in the groups here that there are SPAM versions of this email going around,
and it's unclear to me who to contact at MS to verify if this is valid or not.

As mentioned (and as in prior posts from other people), the emails all contain a spreadsheet to fill in; the email I received is signed as below:

    Kind regards

    Ash Kumar

The "from" email address was From: "Ashish Kumar (Intl Vendor) [mailto:v-(removed)@microsoft.com]" - Is Intl Vendor "International Vendor"?

I'd love to know who to reach out to, so that I can find out if this is a valid request from MS, or some sort of attempt to get copies of our license keys. Can someone from MS advise?

    Best Regards,

    Tony
