Windows 10: Microsoft Money-Reinstall Internet Explorer 6

Your right, of course. I must admit, I love MS Money, it does exactly what I need and is simple to use, but maybe it is time to start looking elsewhere, before we run out of hacks! *Sad

Exactly. You don't want to be trying to find a solution after you're locked out. You want to be proactive and move to something supported before the last gasp.

 

It didn't work for me *Redface ...
There was NO "Internet Explorer" under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft" key. I created the "Internet Explorer" key with the Version item set to "9.11.10240.0".
I rebooted just to be sure ...
... still the same request for IE 6 ...

Any idea on what cold be wrong ?

Actually, I'm running the 32 bits W 10 version. And the registry key that has to be modified is "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" instead. *Biggrin

I'm trying out Windows 10 Pro within a virtual machine (VirtualBox) before upgrading. I have the last UK version of MS Money 2005 (file Money2005-UK-QFE2.EXE).

I managed to install MS Money on VM version of Windows 10 provided I ran the EXE file as Adminstrator. I then got the error above about the version of IE. I applied the registry fix to change the IE version to 9.11.10240.0 and MS Money 2005 now works fine on the VM copy of Windows 10. I loaded my large money file going back 15 years and all is fine - oh joy!!

What UK financial software do people recommend which can read a MS Money file for future financial management? We can only hope these fixes work for so long before MS Money becomes impossible to run.

 

It would surprise me if Quicken didn't.

 

Why would someone have to pay for a program when the free MS Money Sunset works like a dream on all versions of Windows except 10. I downloaded Windows 10 on Tuesday and not one of the "fixes" I found online worked for me. Not changing the registry, not anything. So I am back to windows 7 until I see otherwise. I must have MS Money working and since it isn't working it is a deal breaker for me

 

Yes, Microsoft seem to have slipped up on this. I have account transactions on MS Money going back over 5 years and it is imperative I have access to financial planning software until I expire (c. 30 years ?)!

 

Does MS Money Sunset work for UK transactions? I thought the last UK supported version was Money 2005 which I'm currently using. Also, Quicken seems to be aimed at the US market - I don't see a UK version.

What's the best option for UK users to move away from using MS Money 2005?

No software is going to be supported for 30 or more years. It will eventually stop working. And you better have an alternative by then or you will be stuck. Quicken should import your MS Money data file, or most others out there. It's like an OS, you have to keep it up to date if you want to be sure it keeps working on a new OS.

According to this, Quicken Deluxe 2014 (don't know about the 2015) works fine with Pounds Sterling.

It works now, but it's obviously unsupported. It could stop working at any time. Wouldn't you rather have a solution that is supported in place when that happens?

 

Home Accounts 4 doesn't support share and unit trust transactions and can't import a Money file according to their Technical Support. Quicken support can't confirm whether Quicken will import a money file from the UK version of MS Money 2005.

This may be OK for simple accounting needs, but I've yet to find software which can import a Money file containing many accounts (c. 50) each containing dozens of transactions going back over many years. I also want to manage share and unit trust accounts in addition to bank & savings accounts. I've posted a request on the MS Money support forum and let you know if there is viable alternative for UK users.
