I don't have a problem with MS moving everything from Control Panel to Settings. I do like the fact that they are doing the move slowly so we can get adjusted to the change.

  2. I'd actually like to see stuff moved over a bit faster. Do it already and get it over with.

Or just 1+1 with CP in taskbar:
Why can't we pin individual setting in setting right click menu (jumplist)?

You are right. Keeping track of settings is a problem.

  6. You wouldn't think it would for the obvious reason of No Room to Work With! Perhaps now you can understand why MS is making the adjustments to find the common ground for all platforms not just one or the other. If I simply walk into a store to look at the latest cell phones now being seen you no longer seen them with key pads except for any remaining flip phone models left over. Everything is going strictly touchscreen at the present time which would also apply to Windows Phone, Surface tablet, IPhonies *really as well as Andr(ibble)oid and whatever else comes along.

It took MS three versions just to get this far! So you won't be seeing that being completed 100% anytime soon! But the gradual process is being seen.

With the old Legacy Classic CP everything is wrapped up together in different folder as far as access is concerned as each option will see a separate screen brought up. The same is also being seen with the Settings. But instead of links and check boxes you are now seeing on/off switches instead that are geared for touchscreen as well as mouse click. It makes when you consider Windows is no longer just desktop only but tablet and smart phone platforms being rolled up together where everything has to mesh in order to work.

I just type the first 3 letters of anything I am looking for in Start and it comes right up.
    That, I like!

    *Ditto

*Sick I "love" the stupid new paradigm that says, using more clicks/pokes makes something easier to use. *Sick

    Agreed.

They've been screwing around since the W8 series was being previewed and it still isn't done.
How can it take so long to move a few icons from one window to another?
MS can't afford to hire a couple of graphic artists to create some new line drawings to represent the old icons?

  10. The one thing I like about the $4.99 Stardock Start10 is having some interesting options as well as how the sub Start menu sees the CP as well as pop out to right scroll menu for everything in the CP!

You can opt for the older 7 menu or 10 menu with tiles or the Modern 10 without tiles seen there. You don't even have to right click to get at the CP and can pin to the Start as well as the Start10 menus. It makes for an interesting combination for anyone who would rather not see Metro tiles! The tiles also see the resize option where you can shrink the Start menu down as well.

And besides condensing things down you can also hide the tiles by widening out the Start menu by moving each category over to the right to fill the screen.

Another screen would show the Start in Orange rather then the default blue theme you see there.

Have to agree somewhat with Cliff. . .What's the big deal. . .as a Mac User we have had this for some years now; it is called "System Preference." As I see it, it would appear that is the direction Microsoft is gong with "Settings." No big deal. . .*Smile

  12. It isn't actually! But for anyone who might be overly concerned about this there is an option available to simplify things! Simply watch the following! *Wink

In one look you browsed the "C:\Windows\System32" folder and found the "control.exe" file and look what happened! *Eek*Roflmao2

Once the shortcut is created you can do a number of things first renaming it to Control Panel and then pinning it to the Start as well as the main taskbar and even drag it into a Quick Launch type folder you would use for an additional toolbar. So there are still several options just for that one file alone!

@Night Hawk, I'll make even easier and nicer looking for everyone:
Here is the Custom shortcut, just download it, right click, open properties, check "unblock", apply, then extract to Desktop folder.

Here is a screenshot of it:

    Hi there
the trouble with moving everything at the moment to the settings option is you might not know the name of the item you are looking for - so how do you "find" it from the settings

For example on the control panel you can easily see for example Administrative tools - but if you didn't know this name how would you get it from the Settings as there's no (or at least none that I can see) Browse facility of all the options.

If you have the wisdom of "The Holy Ghost" and know about "Administrative tools" then you can get to it from the settings.

There are other options too that unless you know the name of you won't get at from the Settings.

Maybe it's a deliberate design policy to keep a lot of available options from the user -- in my experience of almost every field of endeavour EDUCATION is far better than keeping users in ignorance or generally dumbing down things as so often seems the case these days.

Note also in future releases that control.exe program might not be there so that trick won't be guaranteed to always work. !!

    Cheers
