Windows 10: Microsoft OneDrive Setup (32bit) constant CPU usage

Hi all,

I have the following problem on both my laptop and my desktop PC. Both running Windows 10 Educational.

High constant CPU usage Microsoft OneDrive Setup (32bit) as seen in the screenshot.

Today I let my laptop run idle, and for 3 hours the OneDrive Setup did not remove itself from the task manager. I then ended the task manually.

Any ideas?

But that means you have to kill Onedrive Setup process every time you start up your PC. Annoying.

COM Surrogate Keeps Trying to Email

I, too, am experiencing this issue.

Symptoms:

1) 99% CPU Usage by Com Surrogate.

2) Proc Explorer shows Cortana Mapi Helper.

3) Constant messages regarding "No Default Mail Client."

Similarly to Mario L's mention of Office, I recently uninstalled Office 2016 32bit to install Office 2016 64 bit.

Outlook 2016 has all defaults assigned.

 

Did you check to see if One Drive is syncing or uploaded large files or folders?

 

It isn't syncing anything because there isn't anything to sync. I only use OneDrive for OneNote and on OneNote I barely have 10 notes.

This problem has been going on for months now. Got the anniversary update yesterday, still the same.

 

Go to settings > Apps > Apps and Features and uninstall OneDrive.

Then delete the hidden folder C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive

Download the latest version of OneDrive from Microsoft on this link: Download Microsoft OneDrive and re-install it.

It will ask you to sign in. When you do it will resync your OneNote content - none of it will be deleted.

 

Just a Reminder ...
One Drive adds an entry to the Task Scheduler (OneDrive Standalone Update Task v2) and if I remember correctly, the default is for it to run at login and then like every hour. After you reinstall One Drive (reboot or logout/login) and let it run to check for updates, then you may want to disable the task or at least change it so it doesn't run at login and only checks for updates ... say once a month *Smile
