Microsoft reaffirms commitment to Windows Mobile: new flagships on way

I've literally begged my bank to develop their app for Windows phone but they simply won't, there has to be a good enough reason for them not to but I have no idea what it is. Perhaps they perceive the market to be too small for them to take the time on? Either way ultimately it's hurting sales of Windows phones, I'd love one myself but there's no point if it won't do what I now need a phone to do. I posted my bank's response a while ago, I won't hold my breath for it.

I do have to say out of all of the carriers, I find T-mobile to be the most honest. I have had them all and none of them can compete anymore. The way t-mobile works for those that don't know, is if you have decent credit, you can put the purchase price of the phone (not that they are great deals or anything) on a 24-month purchase agreement without any interest. This only benefits their Jump program which allows you to jump a phone every 6 months. They pay off your balance and you get a new 24-month agreement with the new phone. Since I've never had a phone longer than 1 year, this benefits me. They also don't charge for data, although the new "gimmick" is to charge for LTE data, although they are slowly phasing that out. Nevertheless, after all is said and done, I pay $40 a phone for service with Jump, insurance (even though there is a surcharge for a claim), 2.5GB LTE data and about $25ish for each phone that was new within the past 6 months. The other carriers don't even try to touch it. The only difference I found from the other "no-contract" places like cricket/metro is that you have to pay for the phone upfront which is the same deal with tmobile if you don't have decent credit.

At least you get a response. Unfortunately I didn't get one emailing them twice.

After my last post I sent a response back. Waiting for one in return, but I doubt it.

Thanks for that info. I'll surely keep that in mind. My next one will be an unlocked phone so as to go anywhere anytime at will. Something we Americans didn't have until recently.

To be honest their reply came out of the blue, I think it must have been an MS employee who forwarded one of my Tweets as I certainly didn't Tweet the bank directly. Still, it was good of them to reply I suppose, and I have been checking the MS store frequently in the hope their app pops up but I'm giving up hope now. I have a month and a half until my contract's up and then it's new phone time, looks like it will be iPhone again. *Mad

Very good rant. My brother had a knack for getting deals, discounts and freebies. If he was still here I would take him with me. A Windows phone is something I would like to have and not something I have to have. If I don't like the deal I wouldn't have any problem walking away.

I did it. I went to the AT&T store today and bought the Lumia 640 XL. I paid $249.99 for the phone. I saved any extra charges by using the sim card from my Galaxy. Now I need to finish setting it up and learn how to use it. I'm posting from it now. When I get home and hooked up to my Wi-Fi I'll do all the updates and stuff.

I just about have my Lumia 640 XL setup the way I want. I found a way to turn off the live tile of the photo app. I wanted to turn it off for the people app but I can't find any way to do it. I found a app to transfer my data from my Galaxy to my Lumia by using Bluetooth. I was a little surprised to find out that Hey Cortana doesn't work and from what I've read it's not going to. I'm still happy with my choice though. Right now I'm upgrading it to Windows 10. It's in the install stage. I have to gears spinning. Hope it goes OK. *Smile

Wow. You're moving quick. A little too quick IMO. This is your first Windows phone, yes?

Hey Cortana works great for me. Did you get to the training part? If not, it's in her settings.

Reduce the size of the tile if you don't want it live.

    How's it going with 10?

From what I read Hey Cortana doesn't work for all phones. The 640XL being one of them. If I click the microphone it works great. I tried updating to Windows 10 on the fast track and had way to many problems. I went back to Windows 8. Right now I'm downloading Windows 10 from the slow track so I can try again. The download is going very slow. I'm still at 9%. The last time it took around 2 hours. I would have stayed with build 10166 but I couldn't sign in to my MSA and a few other problems.

I upgraded from windows 8.1 update 2 to Windows 10 build 10149. It still will not let me sign in to my MSA
When I try I get a screen that says Just a moment with spinning dots. I waited for over a half hour and the dots were still spinning. The keyboard. Doesn't pop up if I have the phone flipped. I got my contacts back and lost my text messages even though I transferred them from my Galaxy again. On occasion when I select something the is like it's frozen for a few seconds. I'm still trying it out. I might try build 10166 out again in a few days.

  15. I just hope that Microsoft releases their new lineup on ALL carriers with no stupid variants such as the 822 and 925 and 821 and the likes. Just make each device be on all carriers or available from all carriers.

But having said that, I'm going to retire my trusty old Nokia Lumia 920 after a solid two and half years of service and sidestepping to a Lumia 830 to tide me over until the flagships arrive for 10.

Speaking about carriers and contracts, I do hope Microsoft keeps pushing for no contract phones. I like that idea. I personally will be buying the phones off contract, the 830 I bought is a gently used model for a killer deal. When I was on the hunt for a new Windows Telephone today, it really underscored the fact how quickly and steeply a phone only two years old drops in price. My 920 when it first launched was running around $650 and more if it was in red. Now, you can get it for about $150 or so. Now imagine if this was on contract. I would have overpaid greatly for a device that lost a vast majority of its value. That's no good.

The 830 I'm excited to play around with, it's a tad better than a 920 and has nifty things like the Hey Cortana feature.

But the 950 and 950XL that will come out, definitely want to know more about them!
