Windows 10 Education Edition: New Build Install

Hi, I have an unused Windows 10 Education Edition key provided by my University that I'm looking to install onto a custom built system which currently has no OS. Can I create a bootable flashdrive using the Windows 10 ISO provided (Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File))
to install Windows 10 Student Edition, or am I forced to use the Education Edition ISO? I ask because I read the media creation tool will not work for the Education Edition ISO, and I will be needing to create a bootable USB.

Cortana not working on Windows 10 Education 64-bit after anniversary update

I did create the "BingSearchEnabled" in regedit and set it on (1). I then re-booted. The parameter remains there and remains set, but no Cortana.

I assume the code to look for the parameter is disabled or missing.

There is some discussion on one of the websites that They have 'temporarily' disabled Cortana and will release an update with an appropriate version of Cortana for the education market at some unspecified point in the future.

Tried to download it since yesterday, been cancelling every try because of download speed; I'm getting all other downloads from MSDN / VS with max speed but this W10 S comes at max 300 Kbps, download manager telling me "2 days left".

 

Oh oh Kari, that sounds like a 56k dial up modem to me.*chuckle Any way I can't afford the subscription price.

I have 100 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up broadband line, it's just this one download that does not go over 300 Kbps. Have tried at least a dozen times during the past 24 hours.

 

Downloading several ISO's from MSDN as I type this. I'm showing 2.7 MB/sec @ 32% with 19 min left to completion for 10-S. Windows 10 Multiple editions, 10-S, and Enterprise show (updated July 2017) Released a couple of days ago on the 26th I believe. They have the last cumulative update rolled into them. The one I want "Education" doesn't have the new July update version up yet.

No.

W10 S is a special edition which can only run UWP apps. Education will remain as it is, quite a lot of its users have need for legacy Win32 applications.

As W10 S only allows UWP apps (native & downloaded from Store), it naturally can't run any other browser than Edge (at the moment at least, although W10 S might just be the trigger needed to force other browsers to make UWP versions). The same with for instance AV and firewall; there aren't many if any alternatives for Defender available as UWP app.

At the same time it makes Windows a bit more secure. OEM bundles cannot include any pre-installed "test this" and "try that" bloatware, users can't install from unreliable sources. Only allowed software source is Windows Store.

 

OKI makes sense. Getting an error when trying to copy the mounted ISO to my install thumb drive. The file is there though? May have to re download my ISO I guess?

Might be the thumb drive, although the error message is talking about the source? I clicked retry a few times with no success then clicked cancel. The thumb drive was at 99% but shows as blank. Rebooted and now I get check for errors messages. I'm doing a clean and reformat with diskpart, and will try again with the ISO I have. If it fails again I'll check the hash.

 

I had no issues to install it last night (see this post), although I do not use USB or DVD to install, I simply apply Windows image with DISM to new partition and when done add it to boot menu.

 

First time I've seen the error I posted above. Will have a second go in a bit. I did a normal format instead of fast, its at 80%. Downloading the ISO again anyway, its at 40% and 6 min remaining.
