Microsoft reportedly working on a Windows 10 feature similar to Apple TrueTone

The next Windows 10 update will reportedly introduce several new features and minor improvements including Start menu refinements that would bring a more polished experience.

If a new report from reliable watcher Albacore is believed to be true, the software giant is internally testing a new feature which is similar to Apple’s TrueTone. The TrueTone is a feature that made its appearance on the iPad Pro and it has also landed on Apple’s new flagship laptop models.

This technology isn’t new or exclusive to Apple device as some desktop monitors have been offering it for a long time.

You can expect your Windows 10 devices to measure the ambient light colour and brightness to adjust its display. The device will use Microsoft’s algorithm to make changes to the monitor based on environmental lighting. The feature is basically supposed to render the right kinds of white under any lighting conditions by correcting white point and illumination.

Windows will be getting a feature similar to TrueTone on iOS devices, adjusting your screen's colors based on the lighting of the environment you're in.

Microsoft is still testing the feature and the company has to ensure that the colours displayed remain consistent and accurate despite the adjustments. Such a feature would introduce a natural viewing experience to all supported Windows 10 devices.

The feature could be released to all devices early next year and the Insiders will be able to try it later this month.

Microsoft testing blue light reduction feature for Windows 10

"Microsoft is slowly revealing new features in its next major update to Windows 10, and it appears blue light reduction feature might be a future addition. The software giant released a new build of Windows 10 testers yesterday with very few visible additions, but Windows enthusiasts have already started picking it apart for clues on new features. Twitter user "Core"has discovered references to a "BlueLightReduction" setting deep within the next major update to Windows 10 (codenamed Redstone 2). It appears to be a setting that will be toggled from the Action Center (notification center) in the operating system.

F.lux has been the most popular option for Windows users looking to reduce blue light in the evenings, but Microsoft's own native toggle will bring this feature to every Windows 10 user. Apple has also integrated a similar feature in iOS 9, but it hasn't announced any plans to bring blue light reduction to Mac OS yet. Microsoft only appears to be testing the feature right now, so there's no guarantee it will ship in the update due early next year. If Microsoft does implement it fully then it will presumably be available on the mobile version of Windows 10, too.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Launch the Store from your Start menu.
    • Click the user icon next to the search box.
    • Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
    • Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
    • When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
