Microsoft rolls out another update for new Edge on Windows 10

Microsoft is rolling out a new version of its Chromium-powered Microsoft Edge browser for the users in the Dev channel. Many of the improvements included in Microsoft Edge Dev are also available for Microsoft Edge Canary.

The new Microsoft Edge Dev version is 76.0.152.0 and Edge Canary is on 76.0.161.0. According to the official changelog, Microsoft Edge now comes with a new ‘Copy download link’ option on the context menu for the downloaded item.

After the update, you’ll notice that the context menu for an aborted download no longer shows a list of disabled items. if you right-click on the cancelled download, you will now see only one option to copy download link. Previously, the browser displayed greyed out options such as Open, Always open files of this type and Show in folder.

Edge’s built-in PDF reader has been updated with a new option that lets you save a local copy of the document. Microsoft is also adding an icon next to the “Add to dictionary” context menu option.

For quick links on the new tab page, Edge will now display an icon of the first letter of the website if there is no site icon available.

Microsoft is increasing the size of some text on the user profile flyout to improve readability.

The tab close button would appear at the centre position when the tab is at minimum width.

In the Apps submenu, you’ll find an updated option “Install this site as an app” instead of showing a really long menu item name.

“When using the keyboard to move through tabs, you can now press enter and not just space to switch tab,” the changelog reads.

Microsoft Edge Canary respects dark mode settings

Microsoft Edge Canary now respects Windows 10’s dark mode settings and no longer requires manual activation from the flags screen.

The new version also comes with various bug fixes and you can get all these changes by checking for updates in Edge.

  2. New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

Microsoft Rolls Out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Microsoft late Tuesday rolled out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, marking 1 year in the market for the operating system, and with it, ending the Windows 10 Free Upgrade offer. The new update bears the internal version 1607, with build 14393. The update is several gigabytes in size, and effectively replaces your existing Windows 10 installation.

The update adds new features to Windows Ink, the stylus-based live notes app; Cortana, the voice assistant, which can now be accessed right from the lock-screen, and is integrated with even more apps; and Windows Hello, the in-built biometric ID system, which has been integrated with many more third-party services, such as Dropbox; improvements to Windows Defender, the anti-malware tool; and various under-the-hood improvements that increase performance and energy-efficiency (lower battery usage).

Microsoft rolls out another update for new Edge on Windows 10

Microsoft is developing a built-in ad blocker for its Edge browser

"One of the first browser add-ons many people install to improve their online experience is Adblock Plus or something similar. Until recently, Microsoft Edge's lack of support for add-ons put off a lot of would-be users, but reports from Build 2016 suggest that native ad blocking is on its way to the Internet Explorer successor.

Adblock Plus is coming to Edge, but built-in ad blocking would negate the need for such an add-on. A slide shown off and snapped at a Build presentation shows that the next version of Edge, in response to user feedback, will feature ad blocking capabilities. There's no word on delivery timescale, but the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update would seem a likely candidate.

ZDNet's Ed Bott photographed the slide which shows Microsoft's development roadmap built around feedback from testers. Right at the top of the list is reference to plans to create a plugin and extension store for Edge, but it's entry number four that's more intriguing.

"Build ad blocking features into the browser" is listed as a Feature Request from users. But the good news is that it is not only listed as being "Deliverable 4682811", but as "Targeted for the next version".

This will no doubt come as good news for those who have fallen in love with Edge, but it's not something that will be welcomed by the likes of Adblock Plus. It does seem that, particularly in the mobile arena, there is a move to baking ad blocking into the browser so it makes sense that Microsoft is following the trend. But it is the fact that Edge straddles Windows 10 on the desktop and Windows 10 Mobile that makes this a particularly interesting move.

Keep an eye out for Insider builds in the coming weeks as the feature may be just around the corner.

Forget extensions, built-in ad blocking is coming to Microsoft Edge - [UPDATE... no it's not!]
