Windows 10: Microsoft Safety Scanner shows Infection during scan but at the end Result shows no infection

During the scanning progress indicates "Files Infected" etc. 11 files; at the end of scan indicates no viruses detected. My question is are infected files not virus and did the scanner delete the infection or the problems? thanks [Original Title: Microsoft Safety Scanner]

Problem KB890830 false positives ? Q=101000 fichiers infectes ????

I had a problem with installation Windows Update for MRT-KB890830. I ended up downloading from MS and ran as Admin on machine. I did entire machine scan and screen showed over 5000 infected file, end of scan showed no files infected by listed nasty malware.
Logs showed machine was clean. So my question is "why is the scanner showging 5000 infected files during the scan" The only AntiVirus I'm running on that machine is the new improved MS security on a Win10 1607. Many of the files flaged as infected are drivers\Nvida
files. I did the scan again from a Reboot to CMD prompt window and now have 35000 infected files.

We have run the tool on several machines in our home and are having similar results. During the program execution it shows 100's - 1000's files infected
