Windows 10: Microsoft Store app not updating

When I enter the Microsoft Store app Windows 10, and I go to the 'Downloads and updates' tab, it says that there is an update available for the Microsoft Store app. So I click Update, it tries to install it then the Microsoft Store app crashes and reopens. When it reopens, it hasn't updated/it still appears in the available updates.

I see what you mean about the password but i think its a backward step to compromise my Microsoft password to to use the app store

Since running the troubleshooter for Windows app didn't work, we suggest resetting Windows Store by following the steps below to resolve your issue:

• Type Apps & features on search box/Cortana and click on it.
• Look for Microsoft Store app and click on Advance options.
• Click Reset button and retest.
