Windows 10: Microsoft store, search bar, and start menu apps list... they all close on their own before...

Hi. Help MUCH appreciated.


This is a new PC, only got today. 4 major errors so far, and I keep finding new ones....


1 When I click MS Store, it just flashes up for a microsecond, then closes. I have tried a few fixes described, but nothing works so far. This means I can't even start using the PC for some of the things I bought it for


2 When I clock on start button and begin scrolling down the app list, it closes down about half way down. :


3 Similarly, when I start typing into the search bar on the task bar, sometimes it works, but every time I start with a letter 'P' is just closes down.


4 When i right-click start then go to 'Apps and features' the box comes up for a couple of seconds then just shuts.


Please help. I have tried some of the stuff on here, and youtube, but it makes no difference. Really hopeless for a new machine. It does have uptodate windows.

Start menu not working, nor search bar, jump lists, clock, etc

Test = by trying things, seeing what does and doesn't work now compared to previously, noting anything that seems wrong, having had SFC repair files.

You can also completely uninstall and reinstall an app if it's not working. (Cortana and Edge and Store excepted).

This issue might occur if some system files is corrupt.



To assist you better, please provided us the information below:

• Are you getting any error message when you click on Start Menu?

I suggest you to follow the steps provided in Microsoft Help Article about Start menu issues and also try to start Windows Search service. Check if it helps.



Step 1: I recommend you to refer to the suggestion provided in the Microsoft Help Article and check if it helps.

Step 2: I suggest you to try to start Windows Search services
and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Type "services.msc" without the quotes and click on it.

3. Search for Windows Search.

4. Double click on it and under Startup type, select
Automatic.

5. Then click on Start button.


Note: If you are not able to change the Startup type, then continue starting the service by clicking on Start button.
