Microsoft Surface Keyboard lagging/freezes - driver issues perhaps

    Hi,

I have a desktop PC with Windows 10 to which I have connected the Microsoft Surface Keyboard to the only way to connect it is bluetooth. It was easy to install, but the keyboard isn't working properly. I also have the Surface Precision Mouse connected via bluetooth, which works perfectly. I think there is and issue with the drivers for the keyboard, but I have no clue how do update it manually.

    The problem

It seems like the keyboard goes into sleep mode all the time could be after a couple of seconds to a minute or so, and when it does and I click a button/letter or so, the keyboard and the sometimes even the computer feezes for about 1-2 seconds.

Afterwards the button I pressed or the word I wrote gets written - so the keyboard responds, it just freezes and is slow to respond. If I type on the keyboard for a longer time, there is no issues.

    Tried different solutions

This has been going on for 5 months now. 1 I have tried to reinstall the keyboard. 2 I have been in the device manger and uninstalled all bluetooth and Surface drivers, then rebooted the computer. 3 I have installed Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center but only the mouse shows up - not the keyboard. 4 I have been in device manager and the keyboard settings and "unchecked" the box named something like "allow the computer to but the keyboard in sleep mode". Nothing works!

I have all the latest drivers for Windows. I dont know about the drivers for Surface. The ones I have, see below:

In Windows -> update -> update history -> I can see four Surface drivers, which are:

    • Surface - System - 1.2.108.0

    Installed 2021-01-13

    • Surface - System - 10.8.137.0

    Installed 2021-01-13

    • Surface - HIDClass - 1.1.136.0 2

    installed 2021-01-12

    • Surface - HIDClass - 3/23/2017 12:00:00 AM - 2.0.305.1

    Installed 2020-08-21

What more can I do? The only thing I know of is to reinstall the entire computer, but that I don't wanna do...

    Best regards, Teodor

    :)

    Issues with Surface Ergonomic Keyboard

To isolate the concern, is your computer also freezing when you're not using the new keyboard? This is for us to know if the issue is being caused by the keyboard or a program on your computer.

In the meantime, kindly uninstall the Surface Ergonomic Keyboard drive, and then re-install it. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Click Device Manager.
    • Expand Keyboards.

      Uninstall.
    • On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the
Delete the driver software for this device
option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
    • After deleting the driver, visit this
      link
      and download the driver software.
    • After downloading the driver software, run it to install.
    • After installing the driver, restart your computer.
    • After restarting, observe if your computer will freeze after waking up the Surface Ergonomic Keyboard.
After performing the steps, kindly share with us the result.

  3. Keyboard input lag (Logitech K270 wireless keyboard, Windows 10 20H2)

Hi there. I've got yet another Windows 10 problem. lol

This time it's my keyboard. I'm using a Logitech K270 wireless keyboard, on Windows 10 Pro 20H2. I have been experiencing keyboard input lag off and on for a couple months now, and I've searched for possible solutions, but none so far have worked. I was hoping you guys could suggest some fixes.

Here's what I've tried, based on the suggestions I've found on the web:
    • Updating the keyboard/dongle's drivers (there are no drivers on Logitechs's site, oddly) and firmware. Nope.
    • Swapping USB ports. Nada.
    • Unplugging any extraneous USB devices. Zilch.
    • Checking the batteries. No joy.

As I was typing this it was lagging here and there. It's a bit disconcerting. Anyway... I don't think I missed anything, but if you need more information or diagnostics, lemme know and I'll upload 'em.

    Issues with Surface Ergonomic Keyboard

    Thanks. Answers below:

    • Does the issue occur when using the keyboard on another Windows 10 computer?
I have not tried on another computer.

    • When the computer freezes, have you checked if you can move the mouse pointer or if you can type using the built-in keyboard of your laptop?
No I cannot move the mouse pointer or type with the built-in keyboard of the laptop.

    • Does the issue occur when using the built-in keyboard of your laptop?
No, only when "waking" the surface ergonomic laptop after not using for a few minutes.

    • What is the model of your laptop?
    It's a Dell Latitude 6330
