MS didn't say when they would remove IE11. It's being phased out but that will not happen for some time. What's occurring is the dropping of IE version later that 11. MS wants to just support 11 and they want to get users to mover over to it.

    That's it..

Let's hope so... I don't have a problem sticking with version 11 as long as I can upgrade Flash and other useful plugins to keep it up-to-date.

  3. You have to read just what the article states:

That doesn't specify IE 11 being removed from anything but MS doing away with IE 10, 9, 8, 7 with IE 6 dead with XP naturally and anyone running an older version running at least IE 8, 9 , or 10. You will still likely find a few old Legacy machines floating around somewhere that haven't "bit the dust" quite yet that may be seeing IE 4 or 5 and never been updated. But as far as being able to continue downloads of anything prior to 11 that will be out unless found still available for download on a freeware site.

Edge however some actually wanting to rave about is still not a finished full pledged browser finished in time for 10's initial release while 10 itself seeing newer builds and presently a free upgrade suggests 10 is presently where 7 was in the RC stage with the actual RTM coming with all fixes next summer once the free offer expires and why the Windows Feedback option is right there in the Start menu! 10 itself still has a ways to go! But it's doubtful that 11 will be gone next year either just like the Sidebar option seen with Vista was still present in 7.

Well, is there a way to download or save Internet Explorer so we can add it back in case they remove it?

MS is not removing IE next year or for some time to come. They have to support existing sites and users. And using a version other than 11 is taking risks with security that is not up to date.

Unfortunatelly, Windows XP users are stuck with IE 8 and Vista users with IE 9. They can still browse most sites and update to newest Adobe Flash and Java, but there are certain incompatibilities. If MS drops support for IE 11, even if they don't remove it, we may see some incompatibilities with certain sites in the future. We will eventually be like XP and Vista users. Let's hope Edge by then will be mature enough to switch to it.

Well, Xp and Vista are no longer supported my MS. And when IE is dropped users will have a choice.. either Edge or some other browser and there are great ones out there now.

I said nothing about XP. Vista is still alive and kicking as is Windows 7. If MS wants to advocate the use of EDGE, then they need to make it available across all supported OS's

  9. I can't wait for the move. Though there are plenty of bugs to work out, I noticed removing the IE feature removes some features from Edge (namely, some Internet Options items). So once IE is given the boot, I think Edge will be complete *Smile

  10. Yes I removed IE11 5/6 weeks ago and have not missed it at all Shawn has even shown now how to remove it.
I can do everything I did with IE11 but without getting pop ups coming up telling me that it has to close, or freeze and have to restart my laptop.
My laptop loads and runs faster, and I can go on any site and forum and surf the web like I used too, but without it doing the above.
I don't use 3rd party either, like CROME or FF or Opera.

I would like to use edge more, but until the include support for useful things like RoboForm, I will stick with IE.

  13. Microsoft to Discontinue Old Internet Explorer Versions in January

This was announced last spring. So what will happen is this. All supported Windows versions will require having the latest supported Internet Explorer versions to be installed, in order to receive security updates and patches. So it goes as follows:

If you run Vista or Server 2008 Classic, you MUST upgrade to IE 9
If you run Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2, you must upgrade to IE 11
If you run Windows 8 Classic or Server 2012 Classic, we have a special case. Both systems only support IE 10. In most cases you can upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and receive IE 11 updates. However, last spring, it was decided that IE 10 on Server 2012 would not be supported for two reasons: (a) Server 2012 cannot be upgraded to 2012 R2, and (b) browsing is not a priority in server environments.
If you run Windows 8.1 or Server 2012 R2, you already have IE 11. Similarly is the case with Windows 10 and Server 2016.

Now if you happen to be running POSReady 2009 (based on XP), I understood that IE 8 would not be supported, because again, browsing is not a priority on a point of sale system.

That's what I heard back in April.

  14. Well Vista extended phase support will last until April 2017 (not 2016 as before stated). New features, applications and service packs ONLY come to older versions of Windows while they are in mainline support. So take XP for example: IE 7 and 8 were released BEFORE XP went into extended phase support, upon which time thereafter you basically just get security updates. So when IE 9 came out, it was not back ported to XP. Just like Vista, it received a release of IE 8 and 9, but NOT 10 and 11, even though extended support continues.

So following that convention, in NO WAY does Microsoft become obligated to back port Edge to earlier versions of Windows (the only exception I would make here is Windows 8.1, but I think they want to retain Edge as a "must have" feature of Windows 10.)

Make Edge as good as IE 11 and then we would have no problem adopting it. Until then, please let IE alone! Don't remove it!
