Microsoft to replace Control Panel with Windows 10 Settings app

Update has already moved to the settings app and now we cant stop unwanted driver updates that fail.
What else are they going to mess up in the change. I will take a bet it will not cope withmultple domains/ workgroups.
It is a far too simplistic approach for complex systems. Why not have a link to "classic" control panel and everbody would be happy.

I agree, for me it doesn't matter either. I saw this coming as of the first Build I installed so there is no news flash ther. And I expect the "average" user doesn't even use the Control Panel so for them, they haven't missed anything.

Whatever or however they do with the Control Panel is bound to upset some people. I really dont see as it will make a difference to anyone where it is.

Maybe Stardock will come up with something, like they did with "Start8" for Win 8.

    From their web site:

"We have a lot of new apps in the pipeline for Windows 10 users," said Stardock President and CEO Brad Wardell. "With each version of Windows, we’ve always been able to add features and improvements that were often later implemented into future versions of the OS."

The only major concern is that Settings provide exactly the same options as Control Panel, if it does then all well and good but if it doesn't then it's just another major justification as to why MS should provide a desktop OS and a mobile OS. Time will tell.

"Settings" seems quite comprehensive but I haven't explored it in detail. Are there options in Control Panel that are missing from Settings (or vice versa)?

    I don't follow your logic.

Just because they kill control panel, and have not yet added some piece of functionality to Settings due to time constraints, how exactly does that relate to anything about a desktop vs mobile argument?

Anything missing in settings is because they haven't had the time to put it there yet.

Windows doesn't change that much ... the way we use it does. Most of the programs and cmdlets will still be there, you just have to DIY. Microsoft, as a business has to move forward ... they have to do the same thing car companies do - change the covering.

The drive train is pretty much the same.

Here's a treat: unzip the folder, unblock it and have fun with the pseudo Control Panel. I have more shortcuts to build, but this is as far as I went (shiny things distract me and the 12 logs in the fire are burning bright)

    ~Cpanel.zip

Here are some others (I might have already included them in the compressed folder - not sure)

And that will be the problem, Winuser! Right now, I go to settings first, but half to three fourths of the time I can't find what I need and have to resort to the Control Panel. *Sad

Microsoft to replace Control Panel with Windows 10 Settings app

Because Settings UI is geared towards touchscreen devices, as is a lot of W10's UI.

I didn't say things were missing from Settings because it was for mobile devices did I? I know more stuff will probably be added to it, hence my saying it will be all well and good if/when they do. Did you miss that bit?

No. The Settings app is geared to toward being a Universal app. Yes, the UI is touch friendly, but that is just something that is a requirement going forward for all new development. Universal apps run on all hardware architectures, and that's the primary purpose, not touch.

To add, ref Wynona's comments. As it exists at the moment, there is no reason why you should need to use your finger - the mouse is still there.
