I have been using MS Visual studio to develop some engineering programs and has served me well. In version 2022, I have run into a little problem that I do not quite understand. Would appreciate help.Program that I developed in MS Studio 2022 works well. But, if I take the executable file some where else to run the program, I get the message that I need to install .NET Desktop Run time 6.0.1x64, The windows asks if I would like to download now, nothing seems to happen when I click yes.MS studio 2022 generates files with following extensions.deps.json.dll.exe.pdb.runtimeconfig.jsonIn the earl

Microsoft upgraded the UI in Visual Studio 2022

In Visual Studio 2022, our team made a series of targeted investments to upgrade the Visual Studio user interface. We’re committed to spending time on the things that have meaningful impact to your product experience, so we grounded our work in real problems and suggestions surfaced by you and made sure to work with you every step of the way to ensure we got it right. The resulting refresh, we’re proud to say, supports improved wayfinding and visual cohesion, more intuitive and legible (yet still familiar!) iconography, improved accessibility, and the start of some customization options that let you make Visual Studio your own.

Visual Studio 2022 is clearly modern, and clearly Microsoft

From a basic wayfinding perspective, distinguishing updates to the look and feel and packaging of a new product make it easier for you to know when you’re using the new product versus other versions you may have running at the same time. From the product icon in menus, to marketing stories about the new release, to the splash and welcome screen, to the UI (theming and iconography) itself, establishing a recognizable style and theme for our 2022 product helps you make sure you’re working in the right place.

How we design that recognizable visual language matters, and we’ve taken advantage of opportunities to align more closely to the Microsoft brand, especially the signature Microsoft Fluent look and feel. Making this subtle but important shift showcases Visual Studio in its position as the best-in-class tool for developers and makes sure customers can feel confident and secure that this release has the power of Microsoft behind it.

Intuitive yet familiar iconography supporting improved efficiency and flow

We hear customers say they find our product user interface overwhelming, complex – even daunting. Yet, we’re keenly aware that even seemingly small changes in iconography can have a significant impact on the day-to-day flow for existing users. So, we started by asking developers like you simple questions: What works about these icons today? What could be better? No matter how much experience they had with Visual Studio, we got the same comments over and over:

Change is OK as long as it doesn’t alter meaning.

Meaningful and consistent color usage makes it easier to recognize and understand.

Sharp contrast and a recognizable silhouette are essential for legibility.

We turned what you care about into principles and, ultimately, acceptance criteria for our work: consistency, legibility, and familiarity.

Applying these principles and some functional considerations around consistent placement of modifiers and overlays, aligning and simplifying colors to limit, say, 10 blues to one, and we started testing the new icon set in internal builds.

After more than a year collaborating with customers to optimize the new icons for developers’ needs, and a month of shipping Visual Studio 2022 Preview 2 with the new icons on by default, we’re pleased with the response. In addition to helping us find and fix hundreds of little bugs, you’ve also given crucial feedback that aided us in identifying and addressing a couple of larger opportunities to optimize the icons for specific audiences. And the positive comments and feedback you shared with us gave us confidence that the icon refresh is landing just where we’d hoped – as something that feels modern, legible, and intuitive.

An updated dark theme that’s easy on the eyes, plus new more accessible font options in editor

In Preview 4, existing dark theme users saw subtle but important updates to their existing theme. We’ve updated the dark theme with improved accessibility, better alignment with Microsoft design language, and more consistent color alignment. Over the last year, we’ve seen data that shows the dark theme has replaced light theme as the most popular, and we’ve also seen a growing trend toward dark theme in developer experiences within Microsoft and across the industry. So, what did we update and why?

Color contrast ratio adjustment

We hold ourselves to high standards for accessibility, so we’re adjusting overall color contrast to make the new dark theme accessible for more people. When an element is being focused on, the component gets a border with increased color contrast, so users can quickly tell the state has changed. The separation between layers and sections is more obvious so that the UI hierarchy is clear.

New accent color

On hearing feedback from you that the current highlight color gives a glaring spotlight effect in a mostly dark theme environment, we decided to make the accent color less intense, and to use it more sparingly, to reduce distraction and eyestrain. The new accent color now matches our latest product visual identity, which also helps users quickly find the right window when they are navigating among multiple tools such as Visual Studio Code or older versions of Visual Studio.

Freedom to choose the theme that’s right for you

We think most of you will benefit from the improvements to contrast, accent color, and accessibility in the new dark theme. We understand that some of you may prefer to stick with what’s familiar, so we’ve made the Visual Studio 2019 dark theme available for download as an extension. In addition, there are a wide range of custom themes on the Visual Studio marketplace – so it’s easy to choose the theme that makes Visual Studio work best for you.

More accessibility and flexibility in editor fonts

In Visual Studio 2022 we added Cascadia Code and introduced Cascadia Mono as a default font. Cascadia is a new, modern, monospaced font family that provides better flexibility for command-line applications and text editor experiences. Cascadia Mono, which you may recognize from the new Terminal, was designed for optimal legibility and accessibility. Cascadia Code is also included in 2022 as an option for developers who use programming “ligatures” – glyphs automatically created by combining characters that many developers find more readable.

Pulling it all together

All these changes seen together give Visual Studio 2022 a distinctly updated feel that demonstrates our commitment to accessibility and continuous improvement, in close collaboration with you. The result is a modern Visual Studio that’s clearly Microsoft.

Visual Studio 2022 Preview 1 now available

We’re excited to announce that the first preview release of Visual Studio 2022 is ready to install! This is the first release of a 64-bit Visual Studio and we’d love for you to download it, try it out, and join us in shaping the next major release of Visual Studio with your feedback.

Our key goal with this preview is to test and tune the scalability of the new 64-bit platform! With the new 64-bit platform Visual Studio is now capable of scaling to make use of all the system resources you have to improve the reliability of Visual Studio especially when working with complex solutions or using Visual Studio over long periods of time. The 64-bit conversion effort affects every part of Visual Studio, so the scope is much bigger than our usual previews.

We know that you expect quality, stability, and scalability from Visual Studio. And to be totally transparent, the quickest way for us to get there is when real developers like you tell us where we can improve. We really do pay attention to every bug report, suggestion, and upvote! Which you can submit from inside Visual Studio via report a problem.

Help us improve the quality and stability by reporting a problem within Visual StudioThe Visual Studio 2022 previews can be installed side-by-side with earlier versions of Visual Studio, are available in all three editions (Community, Pro, and Enterprise), and are free to use.

We need your feedback

We encourage you to try out the preview and use it just like Visual Studio 2019. We appreciate your time in providing feedback and completing in-product surveys, which are invaluable in making Visual Studio 2022 the best developer environment for you.

We would particularly love to hear about your experiences working with very large and complex solutions in Visual Studio 2022. Before the 64-bit upgrade, customers with this kind of solution would sometimes experience issues with Visual Studio as it ran out of memory to use in the main 32-bit process. During early testing of Visual Studio 2022, the same customers were able to run the IDE for days, even with solutions containing 700 (or more!) projects.

What’s coming

Because most of the Preview 1 upgrades have to do with 64-bit support, we’ll be releasing an exciting slate of new features and performance improvements starting in Preview 2. You can read all about those upcoming features on the Visual Studio roadmap. One new feature you can try right away is the update to IntelliCode – you can automatically complete code, up to a whole line at a time.

There’s still some work left in moving Visual Studio to 64-bit, and a small number of the features in Visual Studio 2019 are not included in Visual Studio 2022 Preview 1. You can find a list of those upcoming features in the release notes.

During the Visual Studio 2022 preview, our partners who build the extensions that you use and love will be working to update their extensions. While they do that, their extensions won’t be available in Visual Studio 2022 right away.

The first preview of Visual Studio 2022 for Mac will be coming soon, giving you a first look at the new modern macOS UI for Visual Studio. We still have some work to do before we feel it’s ready for developer feedback and we’ll keep you updated on its progress here on the Visual Studio blog.

Visual Studio 2022 version 17.0 now available

I am really excited to announce that we’ve reached general availability for Visual Studio 2022 and .NET 6, both of which are now available for download. Visual Studio 2022 will help you go from idea to code faster than ever. Developer productivity and quality-of-life improvements are at the heart of Visual Studio 2022, and we’re excited for you to try it out. Simply put, Visual Studio 2022 will let you bring your ideas to life.

Productivity in the edit and debug cycle

In this release, we focused on super-charging the edit and debug cycle.

Visual Studio 2022 has IntelliCode. It’s an AI-assisted code companion that enables you to type less and code more. What this means is IntelliCode can now complete whole lines of code for you, allowing you to write dependable code in just two taps of the tab key. IntelliCode can also spot repeated edits and suggest fixes throughout your codebase where there are similar patterns.

Once you’ve made those changes and have your app running, Hot Reload for .NET and C++ gives you the opportunity to update your code and see changes immediately. What’s more, you won’t need to redeploy and launch your application. And there are hundreds of other things under the hood that will help you. Some of the others include improvements in the debugger and .NET language service as well as new features, like Web Live Preview and cross-platform testing on Linux. There are so many new capabilities and fixes that we just can’t list them here, but we have in our release notes and documentation.

Visual Studio 2022 is the IDE for you. It’s for every developer, from apps built with Windows Forms and Win32, to Blazor, to cloud-native applications based on containers, to applications that use machine learning.

Scalability, reliability, and performance

Visual Studio 2022 is our first 64-bit release of Visual Studio. It can now take full advantage of modern hardware in order to reliably scale to larger, more complex projects. In addition, we’ve focused on improving the performance of common scenarios that you use every day.
