Microsoft will reportedly announce new Windows 10 web browser this week

A couple of hours back, we reported that Microsoft is working on a Chromium-based browser. Now another report claims that Microsoft is indeed abandoning the EdgeHTML rendering engine for Chromium and its rendering engine.

The Redmond-based Microsoft is working on a new web browser for Windows 10 which uses the chromium source code.

Since the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft has been regularly working on improving its default browser by adding new features for users along with making it available on rival platforms.

In spite of all these efforts, Microsoft Edge could not garner the popularity attained by Google’s Chrome Browser or Mozilla’s Firefox and has always been behind Chrome and Firefox in terms of usage.

Due to very less usage of its Edge browser, Microsoft has planned to abandon the development of EdgeHTML rendering engine which the company pushed aggressively since a long time.

The company going forward would be embracing Chromium engine which powers Google Chrome and other browsers like Vivaldi, Opera etc. This would help Microsoft to make its browser faster in terms of usage and improve the page rendering.

The project codenamed internally as “Anaheim” is under development currently and we could expect Microsoft to announce the project as early as this week. The announcement of the new web browser might take this week and the Windows 10 19H1 Insider build with the new web browser could be released this month or later.

We could see Microsoft adding the new Windows 10 browser in upcoming preview build and give itself sufficient time to iron out any bugs before publicly rolling it out to all users in its next major update codenamed “19H1” which is due to be released in April 2019.

According to the latest NetMarketShare data, Google Chrome dropped to 65.57% but is still running on the majority of PCs worldwide. In spite of a slight drop in market share of Chrome, it has not helped Microsoft Edge’s market share which fell from 4.28% to 4.22%.

Microsoft Internet Explorer renamed to Windows Internet Explorer ?

Microsoft will reportedly announce new Windows 10 web browser this week wie1.png

Since version 7 of the world`s most popular web browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer was silently renamed to Windows Internet Explorer.Such a step from Microsoft is not a surprise since Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operation system for a long time.Obviously Microsoft corp. wants to state that Internet Explorer is already considered as a part of Windows and not as an external browser (remember the IE and WMP law issues last year!?).

Microsoft is developing a built-in ad blocker for its Edge browser

"One of the first browser add-ons many people install to improve their online experience is Adblock Plus or something similar. Until recently, Microsoft Edge's lack of support for add-ons put off a lot of would-be users, but reports from Build 2016 suggest that native ad blocking is on its way to the Internet Explorer successor.

Adblock Plus is coming to Edge, but built-in ad blocking would negate the need for such an add-on. A slide shown off and snapped at a Build presentation shows that the next version of Edge, in response to user feedback, will feature ad blocking capabilities. There's no word on delivery timescale, but the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update would seem a likely candidate.

ZDNet's Ed Bott photographed the slide which shows Microsoft's development roadmap built around feedback from testers. Right at the top of the list is reference to plans to create a plugin and extension store for Edge, but it's entry number four that's more intriguing.

"Build ad blocking features into the browser" is listed as a Feature Request from users. But the good news is that it is not only listed as being "Deliverable 4682811", but as "Targeted for the next version".

This will no doubt come as good news for those who have fallen in love with Edge, but it's not something that will be welcomed by the likes of Adblock Plus. It does seem that, particularly in the mobile arena, there is a move to baking ad blocking into the browser so it makes sense that Microsoft is following the trend. But it is the fact that Edge straddles Windows 10 on the desktop and Windows 10 Mobile that makes this a particularly interesting move.

Keep an eye out for Insider builds in the coming weeks as the feature may be just around the corner.

Forget extensions, built-in ad blocking is coming to Microsoft Edge - [UPDATE... no it's not!]

A Faster Web Browser for Windows 10?

    Hi,

You always have the option to use other browsers, however I strongly suggest that you use Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer because of the newer features. To address your issue we are going to enable your Flash Player Plugin. Kindly follow these steps:

    • Click the "..." button on the upper right corner of your Edge browser.
    • Click on Settings.
    • Under Advanced settings section, click the View advanced settings button.
    • Locate the Use Adobe Flash Player section and toggle the switch on to enable Adobe Flash Player.
    • Refresh your web page or open a new browser tab.
    Let's see how it behaves.

    Regards.
