  2. SOLUTION to failed Windows update KB3194496

There is a solution from ZDNET I found on their site. It's a download, followed by a reboot, then just go to your computer's all Settings, Update and Security folder and reinstall the update. It worked for me. Go to
    Failed Windows Kb3194496 News
Scroll down to the failed update KB3194496 and download the fix, then reinstall the update.

Whew. I was worried because typically a failed update download is the first step to a computer's end of life. This fixed it. Shame on Microsoft for pushing an update when its own tech staff said there was a glitch.

This is just another example of sloppy MS software engineering. Maybe it's time for an independent quality audit to check their adherence to ISO software quality procedures. I'm assuming of course that MS does have full ISO software quality accreditation?

  6. This is quite amazing that some were affected by this and the previous 2 updates.

What I would like to see is not just a fix ,but some feedback as to what the problems are.

Ok - so how do you apply the fix if you are in an endless boot loop?

I'm not sure if you know much about ISO (I assume you're referring to ISO 900x and the like), but all these certifications do is require you to have *A* process, not that it be a good process. (I'm not saying MS's isn't good, i'm just saying that ISO certification isn't a guarantee of one).

You can completely have terrible quality and still pass an audit, so long as you are following the process you defined.

Some computers have installed the update faultlessly ( my four included ) yet others cannot.
Now I wonder why?....clashing software perhaps....impossible for M$ to cover all computers with their differing specifications.
Obviously it is extremely annoying for those affected, but you cannot expect M$ to perform miracles.

Has it been possibly because of force removing apps that don't have uninstaller's?
Registry or privacy hacks/adjustments that are not part of windows out of the box?
3rd party start menus and other changes?
Computers that have not had at least ONE clean install since lets say 1511?

The 100's of home user computers I support have not had these issues.

Mine was clean installed November last year.
I have not removed any MS-installed apps.
I have not made any privacy hacks or adjustments to my system at all.
I use the W10 normal start menu.
I do have an Xbox 360 and Xbox One in my house. The fix posted on neowin, removing the Xbox folders/registry entries/tasks worked for me.

MS needs to realize that there are way to many variables involved and that forced updates is never going to work. Even if the updates were, lets say 95% successful. That still would leave 5% that failed. This is people who just want to use their computer without learning how or paying to fix their computers. IMHO, MS should have a popup that says updates/upgrades are available. Do you want to install now, Install later or skip.

You can always uninstall unwanted updates.....assuming you can start your computer.

That's the problem. If the computer wont boot or it boots and won't run right most people won't know what to do. I wonder how many computer got junked because of a bad upgrade or update and the user thought their device was totally broke and not worth paying to get it fixed?

I've been working during 25 years for a mainframe fanufacturer. We applyed one rule : if you don't have the problem, so don't apply the patch. But MS forces you to apply their updates...
