Migrate the OS to a USB drive and use it for a boot device

    Hello,

I've got an Dell Inspiron 3000 series laptop. It has a 32 gb SSD drive and that's it. It doesn't have the capability to expand/add a hard drive. I bought initially just to do light Office work on the road and didn't think the drive size would be an issue since I would be using the cloud for storage. Then came the updates to the OS. It's almost unusable now. I wanted to migrate the OS to a larger thumb drive or external drive and boot the OS from there. Is that possible and if so, how do I do it?

    Dell Inspiron model 14-3452

    32GB SSD

    2GB RAM

    OS - Windows 10 Home

    Thanks,

    RBC

    :)

    Boot linux on USB drive

it might just be that your bios doesn't support it, but it should anyway.

make sure you go into the bios and make sure "boot other device" is enabled and try seeing if the usb is listed as an hdd.. as bootable flash drives are usually picked up as usb hdd's and check if your bios detects the flash drive.

  3. USB Drive showing "Not Migrated" in Device manager

Forgot this one on the list, my bad

Yes, I have tried the steps above and it did not resolve the issue.

My pen drive is still showing "not migrated"

Any further help would be appreciated, thanks!

Migrate the OS to a USB drive and use it for a boot device

Booting from USB on x38 Motherboard, NOT?

Typically the USB should be listed under the hard drive boot order. Set your "Boot Device Priority" to HDD first, then set the hard drive boot order to the USB stick first.
