  1. Migrated from HDD to SSD - Unable to Reset

    Hi Guys,

I was using a HP Pavilion P-045tx (4th Gen i7, 8 GB, 1 TB) which came with windows 8.1 pre-installed. It got updated to Windows 10 Home Single Language 64 bit later.

Due to the 100% disk issue and lag in the overall running, I bought a Samsung Evo 860 256 GB SSD and installed it by removing the optical drive. I used the Samsung Magician software to verify the performance (Initially, the bios wouldnt recognize the SSD and when I digged deeper I saw that the SSD was offline in Disk Management. I just had to right click and make it online). Then I used Samsung Data Migration software to clone the original C Drive to the new SSD after which the SSD Drive became the new C drive.

At this point, everything was going smooth but to have a better response and reorganize everything else, I chose to reset the system. When I tried to do that, it failed, even though there was a 20 GB Recovery drive which was a part of the drive from the time I go the system. I have done resets multiple times before as well. Now, the only solution was to create a bootable USB flashdrive using the Windows Media Creation tool, which I did and used that to do a fresh install in the SSD.

Once the entire process was complete, when the system restarted it showed an error i.e. it couldn't find a drive. I tried again and the same error. I went on to the BIOS boot options and understood that the SSD is not listed in the boot manager. Finally, to run the system I had to install Windows in the HDD again.

    Now, my question is:

    1. What should I do to make the SSD visible in the boot manager after windows installation? Is there something like an update or settings change I should do in BIOS to make it recognize it? I'm confused because when I cloned the OS, it came in the BIOS boot manager and I just had to give preference to SSD over HDD. My requirement is I want a fresh OS in SSD and the HDD only for storage.

    2. Now that you've come this far, please tell me how to remove the various recovery/unallocated drives in the HDD and make it to a single HDD of 1 TB. Since these above mentioned drives comes in between the actual drives, I'm unable to merge them and whenever I right click these drives, no options comes except for help.

Thank you very much in advance for your response.

    :)

  2. Migration from Hdd to m2.SSD

Recently I have purchased a new laptop (hp probook 450 G4) and a new original windows 10 home edition and now I want to upgrade my 1 TB Hdd to a new m2 ssd and my laptop supports another slot for the m2 ssd so I can run both
the m2 ssd & hdd at the same time but I will make the m2 ssd the boot drive and the hdd will be the data drive.
MY Question is how can I migrate system drive to the new m2 ssd without the need to reinstall windows or any other installed programs and there is another thing, when I checked the disk management I found 3 recovery partitions will I have to
migrate them too or I have to migrate the system drive only

  3. Migrating from HDD to SSD

You're looking at just under 75GB of data to migrate from your HDD to SSD so...
I'd suggest you use Todo Backup Free for migrations to SSDs. As "Word Man" mentioned, you get to choose if you want to move some or all of the partitions of a disk. I think you'll be ok to just migrate/clone the whole disk to the new SSD and then from it from the SSD to the other physical drive you mentioned having. If you have a Samsung SSD, use their Samsung Magician software to do the clone.

Migrating Win10 OEM Upgrade from HDD to SSD

I recently helped a friend with OEM Windows 7 Home Premium on his laptop upgrade to Windows 10. All went well with no probs - so laptop is currently running Windows 10 OEM.

He now wants to swap out the single HDD for a Samsung 850 Evo SSD. Can I simply migrate the HDD to the SSD, and then swap the SSD for the HDD - and Windows 10 OEM will still be activated?

I did something similar with my laptop (running Win10 Retail, upgraded from Win8.1 retail), using the Samsung migration software.

Will a similar job work with Win10 OEM?

    Thanks for any help/advice.
