Windows 10: Missing Desktop

Since my Windows 10 update 4-12-20 my normal desktop only flashes up for a moment and then is replaced by ? cortano. I have lost all control over my desktop icons and the only given answer is to go to personalization and background and themes and bla bla. I'm not happy because other people have this problem but the MS team cannot comprehend what people are talking about. I dont want to know what the weather is doing - I want my desktop icons and a normal simple simple normal normal simple setup. The system installed updates - it then meant that I had to reset many different things back to how they were including the screen size using the cat centre and then the next day after several reboots I loose the desktop for yhis new stuff that justifies someone's job. I unpinned all the incons that were there and I am now left with a blinding white screen and a taskbar. HELP !

• Did you do a clean installation of Windows or upgrade to Windows 10?

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if you can find your desktop files.

• Open This PC.
• Double click on C: drive.
• Open Users > double click on your user name.
• Open Desktop and check if you can find missing files.

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
