Windows 10: missing keyboard language in task bar

Following a recent update, the language selection tool for my normal laptop keyboard, heretofore in the task bar next to the date and time, has disappeared.


Now I cannot switch back and forth between languages, a useful function for me in a multi-lingual environment


How can I retrieve that function? It used to open automatically every time I started the computer.


Now, as a sad replacement, I sometimes see the touch keyboard language options, other times not. But I have no interest in the touch keyboard.

Language bar is missing


I did a clean install of Windows 10 not long ago and now my language bar is missing. In addition, the alt-shift shortcut for changing keyboard layouts does not work. I have checked all my control panel settings and also added a registry entry to launch ctfmon.exe, as per the instructions here, but I still have the problem. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks!

Edit: The problem only occurs with one account. When logged into my troubleshooting account I can see the language bar.

Language icon missing from Task bar

Hello,

We realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with Missing Language icon from Task bar. We will certainly help you.

It would be grateful if you can reply to this question in order to assist you further:

• Have you installed all pending Windows updates?
• Have you restarted your system and check if the issue persists?
• What happens when you click on the empty space from where the Language icon is missing?
• Have you check if all the Language pack are installed correctly?

To isolate the issue we suggest you to check if the language pack are installed correctly and one of the language pack is set as default:

1. Click on the Start menu and select Settings.

2. Select Time and Language and then click on Region and Language
tab.

3. Check if all the language pack is installed properly. If its not then remove the language pack and then install them again and check.

4. Click on the language which you want to set as default and select set as default.

Next if the issue persists, check if the same issue persists in different user account. If you do not have different user account then try creating a new user and check:

For Now as a work around try using your keyboard to switch between languages:

Press Windows Key +Space bar to switch between language.
