  1. Missing Microsoft hosted network virtual adapter

I've been trying to create a mobile hotspot using my PC so I can connect other devices, but have run into an issue: the Microsoft hosted network virtual adapter is missing from the Device manager. My version of windows is the latest, last checked for updates as per a few minutes ago.

I have turned on show hidden devices, but it's still not there - only Microsoft Kernal Debug Devices.

I have updated all drivers, nothing changed. I have also tried to roll back the updates to their oldest versions, nothing changed.

I have been scouring the web for a download for the microsoft hosted network virtual adapter, but haven't yet to find a reliable one that actually works - and microsoft have not released any kind of replacement. I know this issue is common, and am confused as to why/how it hasn't yet been addressed appropriately.

My wireless adapter says that Hosted network is supported, and I was able to use this particular adapter in the past with a different computer, but that no longer works also. I know it is not an issue with the adapter.

I suppose now I'm just asking for some way to download the missing Microsoft hosted network virtual adapter.
I have the very latest version of windows, as per 31/01/19 22:00.

I know the adapter works and allows for supports hosted networks and all my drivers are updated to their latest versions also.

I've seen many questions synonymous with mine current query from up to 4 years ago that still have no adequate answer/solution.

Is there a solution or not? Simple yes or no would suffice

    :)

  2. microsoft hosted network virtual adapter

    Hi Sayan,

I too, had uninstalled the Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter, since I was unable to create a hotspot from the computer. After restarting, I was hoping for the adapter to be visible/present in the device manager, as it happens when we
    uninstall a USB Controller.

However, after restarting, the adapter is not seen in the Network adapters list, and also not found under the
Other list, as you suggested above. This was checked after enabling view for hidden devices. Also, there is
no yellow alert symbol near any adapter.

I have also restored the computer to an earlier restore point, but the adapter is still not seen !

Since, the Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter itself is not found in the list, there is no way to update the driver software for it.

Hotspot creation has worked for me many times since I've upgraded to Windows 10, and I need it to keep working as before.

    Request you to help !

    Thank you.

Also, Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter is not associated with a hardware, is it ?

Microsoft Hosted Virtual Network Adapter is Missing

    Hi Arthur,

There's a possibility that the Internet Connection Sharing is not enabled on your machine. To enable it, follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the Windows key, then select Network Connections.
    • Right-click the network adapter with an Internet connection (could be Ethernet or wireless network adapter), then select
      Properties.
    • Click Sharing tab.
    • Under Internet Connection Sharing, check the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection option.
    • On the Home networking connection drop-down menu, select the
      Microsoft Hosted Virtual Adapter
      .
    • Click OK to finish.

    Update us with the result.

    Regards.
