Windows 10: missing search field and snipping tool

Yesterday I turned on my laptop and in my lower taskbar my snipping tool and the shortcut for Microsot Edge was missing. I clicked on the windows icon in the lower left corner and found edge but no snipping tool. I can't search for it because the search field is also missing. It is no longer listed in apps either. Can anyone tell me how to get it back?

Snipping Tool

I never had a Snipping Tool until I upgraded to Windows 10. The Snipping Tool is one of my favorite items

on Windows 10. I just type Snip in the Search Windows field and up it comes. Sometimes I do have trouble

printing some of my Snips. I would welcome feedback about printing snips.

 

Missing Snipping Tool.

There's no way to delete a System file like that while Windows is running even if you take ownership of it.

See if you can retrieve it this way:

Step 1: Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 (“C” is your system drive).

Step 2: Locate SnippingTool.exe, right-click on it, click Pin to Start to pin Snipping Tool shortcut to Start menu.

If it isn't there then you have System File damage which is remedied by running the System File Checker. But it could be infected so it's best to start with infection scans which is Step 7 in this Checklist, followed by the SFC scan in Step 11:

I searched the forum, found this answer and got it! C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

 

Although I don't use StartMenu 99% of the time, and SnippingTool had been pinned to the taskbar before the upgrade to 1709 (it's still there), but StartMenu>>AllApps>>Windows Accessories -->> drop down menu led me to Snipping Tool, where I thought it would be.
