Windows 10: Modern Desktop Icons are Blank?

I created desktop icons for the People, Money, News and Weather apps in my user account. These initially appear with the correct icon but when I log off and log in again, the icons are blank. How can I ensure the correct icon is displayed?

My desktop, Control Panel, File Explorer, Taskbar, and all desktop apps appear in an icon font called Marlett

Text is illegible.

Modern Apps like Microsoft Edge and the Windows Store, and the Start menu are NOT affected.

If you are referring to startup icon appear on the desktop then follow this simple steps and try if it help.

  Right-click on the desktop and select
  view.

  Click on medium icon and click on
  auto-arrange icons.

  Press Windows logo key + I and select

  On the left click on Change the size of texts, apps, and other items: 100% (recommended) as per to the requirement

Hi, how did you try to create the shortcuts?
Whilst you can create them by dragging them from the Win 10 start menu, when I tried that a couple of months back, as you say, some went blank.

Note that you have to manually assign the icon, though, so you would need a suitable source.

For interest: Classic shell offers the ability to show a full folder of modern apps as part of a conventional start menu.

 

Thanks for the tip. I tried this but you just get the Explorer icon and there is no obvious way to set the correct icon.

I created the shortcuts using Classic Shell - from the Apps menu I right clicked the app and selected Create Shortcut which put the shortcut on the Desktop.

I just browsed to the folder c:\program files\windowsapps at which point I got the permissions nag screen and the icons suddenly appeared and have been stable over several restarts!!! I've no idea why this fixed the problem but it's worth a try if you have this problem.
