    Monitor/display will not turn off

i tryed almost everything in my knowledge and found that using an hdmi -> hdmi cable the turn off function works fine

my setup was hdmi -> DVI cable (boundled with my asus monitor). don't know why windows10 has this issue because with the same hardware (and cable) in windows7 all was working great

  2. I had this issue, and couldn't figure out the answer. Anyways, I had a portable bluetooth speaker plugged into the USB port charging, and while it was plugged in my computer would not sleep, and the monitors would not turn off. Anyways, I just unplugged it, and now they work as they did before. So charging this portable bluetooth speaker via USB is what was causing the problem.

Click on start and type in power options and press enter.
Go into change plan settings for your selected plan.

There will be a value in turn off screen after X and go to sleep after X
Change them into the values you want then...

Click on advanced power settings and select display, then under turn off display you will notice it has a high number as default, change this to match your previous selection.

Then go up to sleep and select the + and select sleep after...then change this to the value you hit earlier.

    Press Apply then ok.

    Worked for me *Smile

My solidarity for an old Amiga user like myself...
I discovered similar issues may also be caused by some audio device drivers, in particular Razer Surround and Hear (by Prosoft) and maybe others. If you examine the powersaving status with "Powercfg REQUESTS" you should find those kind of drivers locking forever audio device (and preventing sleep mode etc.)... In these cases there's a workaround though:

    powercfg -REQUESTSOVERRIDE DRIVER "Hear" SYSTEM
powercfg -REQUESTSOVERRIDE DRIVER "Realtek High Definition Audio" SYSTEM

    and reboot.

    Hello,

After going through all solutions here to no avail, I found the source.
    The "Alps Pointing-Device Driver"

Which is bundled in any new Lenovo IdeaPad 710s

In order to resolve, go to task manager, startup, and disable the Alps Pointing-Device Driver.Reboot.

I hope this will save some time and nerves *Smile

  7. I had Similar problem, but all it was, was Kodi. it was minimized in the system tray, but still ran regular updates etc. So closed Kodi and my monitor went to sleep as normal.

    Monitor/display will not turn off

I have the same display-off problem. It started suddenly a few weeks ago. Could it be a bug in the latest Win10 update? I tried everything described in this thread without any success -- the display does not turn off by itself at all and when it is turned of with ScreenOff2 it comes baack on in a few seconds, Very irritating at night!*Sad

Hello everyone, since this is the top result when searching Google for "monitor does not turn off windows 10",
I would like to share my experience.

None of the suggestions worked for me, but I finally discovered what was preventing the monitor from sleeping. It was Rainmeter! A desktop customization tool.

Apparently, something that had to do with the new Game Mode or video improvements in Windows Insider preview (build 16242) mistook a plugin that I used with Rainmeter as a game or video (it was a plugin that showed system resources and updates every 1 second).

I simply quit and disabled Rainmeter and my Monitor / screensaver sleeps like normal!

I am not sure if Rainmeter is aware of this new issue, but I can live without it for now at least until Rainmeter or Microsoft becomes aware of this and hopefully fixes it.

I am speculating this is a new "feature" that Microsoft came up with that looks at a screen if it is static or not, and automatically keeps the screen going if it is displaying moving content or playing video.

    Hope this helped out.

    Cheers!

Yes I agree it's a Windows 10 CU new bug with connected devices. For me the culprit was a USB gaming device (open "Game Controllers" from Cortana...): retro 'Competition Pro USB arcade joystick SpeedLink SL-6603-SPORTS-EU'. Has always worked fine and passively never gave a single problem in the past. With some recent update something changed: when it's attached the screen can't go off, if I remove it from my USB port everything goes back to normal behavior...
Device manager sees it as 'HID-compliant gaming controller' HID\VID_040B&PID_6533&REV_0100

EDIT: it seems to happen with ANY gaming device attached, tested also with a Xbox One S controller BT connected. Definitely a new Windows 10 bug.

I started a Feedback Hub report, feel free to vote if you can reproduced the same issue

Try also, from an admin prompt:
    PowerCfg /REQUESTS
and see if the 'ACTIVELOCKSCREEN:' reports something specific.
