Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity

I can't believe it was this easy. All of the scrolling, searching, and pulling out hair, this simple step worked. Microsoft needs to get it together. Thank you!

Microsoft hosts its own forums in TechNet. I've never felt that Microsoft development personnel ever look at those forums, much less the fantastic independent "Ten Forums, Eight Forums, Seven Forums". It's rather sad actually. I believe all development staff need to staff the end-user support desks and forums a few hours a week to hear from actual users.

Nobody hears your screams in space or in Microsoft. I'm grateful for the open ears and support provided to and by each other in Ten Forums.

Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity

Same as Cryomerlin, I would like to thank Stratowar for fixing the bug in the W10.

I'm still testing the computer now, and it seems okay.

Question: can we change the sleep time in the power option now with Stratowar's setting?

  7. I am having a similar issue, however mine is not a case of the display turning off/a blank screen saver. The laptop just goes to sleep, but not just after being idle, it does it while you are using it. I was in the middle of typing something yesterday and it went into sleep mode, woke itself up, then as I was typing the password in it went to sleep again. This repeated a number of times before it would stay awake long enough for me to put the password in. Then it would stay awake for a maximum of 5 minutes before flickering in and out of sleep mode. I have tried the regedit method that stratowar mentioned, along with all other methods mentioned in this thread. Nothing seems to have worked. It is set to never sleep on battery and while plugged in, unattended sleep time out is set to 24 hours (I have tried this at various different times and it had no effect), hard disk is set to never turn off, same for the display. I checked the BIOS and there was no mention of any sleep settings in there.
I was wondering if anyone else has had it go to sleep whilst they were actually working on it, because from what I can tell for everyone else it has been when the machine was left idle for a minute or two, and I don't recall anyone mentioning that it continuously goes to sleep, wakes itself up, goes to sleep again a few seconds later, then wakes up again. For lack of a technical term at this moment, I shall diagnose my machine with narcolepsy.
If anyone has anymore ideas I would love to hear them, as I am considering doing a fresh install of 10 but I would rather save that as a complete last resort.

Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity

I've fixed this problem with the regedit approach twice, and the solution works -- but something is going on, because within a month or two, I need to do it again. I've added the Unattended Sleep setting to my advanced power controls in the hope that when this happens again, as I'm sure it will, I don't need to go through another internet search and plow through a dozen web pages to remember the solution. I don't know what's going on, but I'm on my computer all day (teach online college courses) and this problem is beyond annoying for me.

  10. Mine just started doing this, right after I updated the drivers for my nVidia 980. Wondering if it is a glitch...
I've tried all the other fixes with no success. Maybe a new driver update will help...

  11. Well crap! I've done EVERYTHING! Updated the video card drivers, tried all the tricks listed in this thread, updated the drivers for my monitor, etc...
Why does the dang thing not only turn the monitor off, it goes into sleep mode after about 30 min...
I'm ready to pull the remaining hair out of my head...

  12. Well, after trying EVERYTHING, the stupid thing will now turn the monitor off, then it starts blinking on and off, then goes to sleep...
This is just too much! I'm shutting it off before I put a bullet through the tower...

  13. Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity

Whatever is going on, I fixed it!!!
    I went here:
5 Tools to Prevent Windows From Sleeping or Turning Off the Display • Raymond.CC
And downloaded Caffeine. It simulates the pressing of a keyboard key every 40sec.
The computer thinks you're actively typing, so it doesn't go to sleep!!!
There are 4 other programs you can choose, but Caffeine worked its charm on my Win10 PC.
Now I need a bottle of aspirin...

  14. "Cut paste from later in this tread....
Here is the solution that worked out for me:

    1. Click on the windows icon
    2. Type regedit
    3. Right-click on regedit icon, click Run as administrator
    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0
    5. Double click on Attributes
    6. Enter number 2.
    7. Go to Advanced power settings (click on Windows button, write power options, click on Power Options, in the selected plan click on the Change plan settings, click on the Change advanced power settings).
    8. Click on the Change settings that are currently unavailable
    9. Click Sleep, then System unattended sleep timeout, then change these settings from 2 Minutes to 20 for example.
    That's it! "
