This FINALLY worked for me! I have tried for days, everything I have seen here or on Googling, Binging, whatever search, tried all the suggestions, but nada, shut off in usually 6-7 minutes, just display though.

This so far has been the fix! For me anyway - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! *Smile

I just wanted to add, I am new here, just for now, but want to learn and stick around. I want to thank this user "stratowar" for the ultimate fix of my problem. I spent way too much time figuring this out. Originally, I couldn't upgrade to version 1511 from the original Windows 10 Build, so I did a clean install, had a few glitches of course, but nothing major as I worked all of them out on my own. Obviously you'll know this is an old PC, but kept in shape. I was so happy to have a clean installed 1511 version of Win 10 Pro, but with this new annoying shut off problem, I felt so unsecured, and couldn't figure why it was happening, especially when all my custom settings wasn't suppose to allow this to happen. I

just REALLY want to say, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH "stratowar"!!! I feel complete now! I have a fully functional updated windows 10 version, on an old Windows XP SP3 PC, I partitioned this old drive, installed windows 7 Ultimate with SP1, and Windows 10 Pro with winver 1511. I just cannot say thank you enough!!! *Wink*Biggrin*Cool*Cool*Cool*Wink*Biggrin

I am in same boat. My laptop's screen turns off in like a minute of inactivity no matter what the power setttings are. there is no way to fix this ..i have tried so many troubleshooting things and none of it has worked. It is a Lenovo Yoga 700. This is so annoying. How can i fix this issue??? I even set it to never turn off and that didnt work. Crazy.

F finally bought a new graphics card online, being my Desktop Nvidia card GT 9400 kept on shutting off display after 5 minutes or so of idle time. Its an older PC, and yes, I do know a newer graphics card won't enhance performance, but at least it might provide stability. The 9400 GT Nvidia card didn't have a fan, or a strong enough fan, or maybe very dirty. The new MSI 730 GDDR5 might do the trick, speed up or at least display better in video and quality, so I am asking, and I bought this online, haven't received it yet, will this be compatible with an old 925 chipset, Pentium D 2.8? Checking out my older original generic graphics card, the new MSI 730 is about the same size. My PC specs are listed on the side. Here are the full specs of the new card:

MSI GeForce GT 730 GDDR5 1GB OC Low Profile Ready DirectX 12 (N730K-1GD5LP/OC)

Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity

THANK YOU!!!! I was beginning to feel like I would never solve this. I knew there had to be something that I could tweak to get this elusive 'system unattended sleep timeout' to turn up. Your instructions are so easy to execute, plus it actually worked! I don't typically sign up to a forum once I have gained the information needed, but I just had to thank you! Thank you very much!

    Cheers,

    Shell

Hi Shell, I actually wound up getting a newer graphics card eventually, just so you know, because this worked for a while, but come to find out, my graphics card that was being used, was overheating, old and needed replacing. But I hope the instructions above solve your problem. I'd assume you have a newer PC. Mine is old, and I just bought a MSI Nvidia card, just a 730 GT but with GDDR5 which boosted response and display overall quite well. I will admit, Windows 10 has these hidden functions MS should be more transparent about. I still yet to know all my security flaws, more or less wide open MS reporting to them. But I do love the new OS! Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity :)

    Thanks to barriesargent and stratowar.
It was easy to follow your instructions, but without them not many people will be able to find the setting.
This seems not to be a bug. I feel cheated and insulted by Microsoft.
I had to wait for my program to finish, before restarting my computer, which took me several hours. I hope now my setting to 99999 minutes will suffice. There should be an option for 'never'.

I tried all sorts of solutions on my wife's computer and even had Microsoft try several times to solve the problem of going to sleep after 10 minutes. even higher level people at MS didn't find a solution.

To solve the problem I installed Don't Sleep a program download from cnet. this allows you to set how long your computer will stay awake. it is not such and elegant solution but it works while other solutions did not.

    Give it a try...

  12. Thank you stratowar! Like others, I registered on this site just to tell you how awesome you are! Mine still goes to sleep about once a week, but it's MUCH better than it was. To wake it up I go into the Advanced Display settings for that monitor, change the resolution to something else, click Apply, then change it back to the Recommended Settings.

I would really like to try this, but when I got to step 8, that link is not there...I saw someone posted a screenshot of it earlier and mine does NOT have the link showing. Any ideas on how to get it to appear?

  14. Yes, it has been removed, but the options are still available. If you expand Sleep, the System unattended sleep timeout is the 2nd option. And, by the way, I had to set mine to 999. 20 minutes worked for a few weeks, but then it started going to sleep again. It hasn't gone to sleep since I increased it to 999, but I only changed it a week ago, so I'm still considering it in testing.
