More devices will reportedly receive Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Windows 10 version 1809 was originally announced in October but Microsoft pulled it after some users reported unexpected issues. Microsoft finally addressed the all known issues and re-released the October update to the consumers in November. In December, Microsoft made Windows 10 October 2018 Update available for all users who manually check for updates.

Microsoft says the October update is fully available for advanced users who manually select “Check for updates”. This confirmed that the update has just reached another stage and it should be offered to more devices automatically in the coming weeks.

In other words, the October 2018 Update is available for those who go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and simply tap on ‘Check for updates’ button.

According to isolated reports, Microsoft updated the KB4023814 package and started pushing it to more devices on December 24. The purpose of the package is to push the latest Windows 10 update to outdated devices. By the looks of things, this package could push Windows 10 version 1809 to some devices.

Some devices running an outdated version of Windows 10 will receive a notification prompting users to update to the most recent supported Windows 10 update which could be the October 2018 Update.

In the support document, Microsoft notes that devices running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or older will automatically download Windows 10 Update Assistant. “Then, you can expect to receive a notification that states that your device must have the latest security updates installed and then initiates an attempt to update your device,” Microsoft explains.

The users running outdated Windows 10 version can remove the Update Assistant to make sure that version 1809 isn’t installed unless you want it.

If you would like to download and install Windows 10 October 2018 Update now, you simply check for updates manually in Windows Update Settings or install the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

At this point, the update appears to be bug-free and the users are no longer reporting any critical issues.
