Windows 10: Motherboard power light (PS_SW) is flashing and system wont boot up

Discus and support Motherboard power light (PS_SW) is flashing and system wont boot up in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; Yes the missing female pin is correct, just looked at a spare Corsair PSU I have here to check.     Yes the missing female pin is correct, just looked at a spare Corsair PSU I have here to check.
    Another thing I've thought of, might be worth checking there are no loose screws under the motherboard shorting something out.
    Agreed I'd head to the Hardware section for some of the extremely good advice given there.

    I have the same motherboard. I once had a flashing on board power LED due to a faulty XFX PSU which could not provide a reliable +5V standby signal. Test the PSU in isolation using the paper clip test and measure whether the PSU can provide a steady +5V standby signal. See How to Check a Power Supply: 12 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow

    clam1952; not a bad idea! I unscrewed the motherboard and checked it out--didn't see any loose or out-of-place pieces.

    Steve C; Awesome! Thank you for the tip! I will try that when I get home! Edit: I tried it--the fan was almost too quiet to hear, but I noticed a click and also some moving air coming out the back. I doubted my PSU was the problem (it's fairly new), but I'm glad to have it relatively confirmed. Although that article you linked says I would need a voltmeter to really be sure...

    While I got y'all here... can someone confirm for me that an LGA 1151 socket motherboard (like the replacement board I'm considering: a Gigabyte Z170x-UD3 Ultra) is compatible with an LGA 1150 CPU (like the replacement i7-4790k I want to get)? That motherboard/CPU compatibility issue feels so needlessly complicated...

    i7 4770k LGA 1150 vs LGA 1151 - [Solved] - Components
    Seems they don't interchange. That pretty much been the way since some of the early Intel Pentium boards that couldn't accept AMD CPUs. It was possible in the 80386 and 80486 days to use a board for either CPU but there were numerous jumpers needing setting depending upon which CPU was used.

    Thank you so much, Berton! I found some conflicting/ambiguous stuff about it and am so glad I double-checked: saved me a lot of time and money. I had hoped it had opened up a bit, but I'll now know to stick to specific socket types.
