Windows 10: mouse stutter + surfacebook 2 + better performance + sampling rate > 250Hz

Dear Community,


I'm using a Surface Book 2 15" / 250GB HHD configuration.

I have a problem using my Gaming Mouse ROCCAT for a while now on this machine.

The pointer stutters "randomly" freezes every few seconds for about a second then jumping ahead.


Today I made a connection to the energy profile I use and the sample rate Hz set in the mouse driver.


Since my system is not set to english i'll call the 3 engery profile settings the ones you find under the battery icon in the system tray as follows:

1 - longest battery life -> for the battery saving setting obviously leaf icon

2 - better performance -> for the intermediate setting

3 - best performance -> well also obvious lighningbolt icon


With the mouse set to 1000Hz sample rate there are no issues using energy profile 1. Using profile 2 the pointer is "hanging" about once every 20 seconds. When profile 3 is active the mouse is constantly stuttering -> to a point where working with it is almost impossible.

Note that "best performance" which should make no compromises in cpu speeds etc. actually yields the worst results here


Lowering the sample rate in the mouse driver helps gradually with every step 250Hz to the point where at the 250Hz sample rate the problem subsides and the mouse is running smoothly even using energy profile 3best performance.


Now I know what you would think - what's his problem sounds like he's got the fix right at hand.

True, though I'm still wondering what's going on with my machine that this problem even occurs - especially since the problem is not connected to increased cpu usage.


I tested the mouse on other Laptops and it seems fine.

Another mouse model from Roccat has the same stutter problem when used with higher sample rates.

Also I tried a really cheap logitech office mouse and it doesn't have any problem presumably because the sample rate is initially low


Does anyone have a guess what's going on here and if there might be a real fix for the problem instead of a work around?

Is there a way to change the mouse polling rate

When it comes to mice, there are a number of specifics. DPI is often confused with polling rate. Polling rate is how often the device driver "samples" the mouse, a higher polling rate is more reactive and seems "smoother". DPI refers to how many screen pixels translate to one inch of mouse movement. A high dpi with a low sample rate results in "stuttering" where the mouse seems to "jump" to the next position rather than smoothly moving to it.

 

audiodp.exe and sample rate

I cannot change the sample rate in my recording interface because I get message that audiodp.exe is on and this will not allow sample rate change please advise
