Windows 10: Moving files from Mac-formatted external hard drive to PC

I have an external hard drive where I moved all of my mac photos to. I now have a PC with windows 10, but I can't find a way to save the photos onto my computer. The hard drive is recognized in disk management, but does not appear under devices. I would like to format it to my PC WITHOUT losing my photos. Help!

Since the external hard drive was formatted for Mac and the only way you can access it is by using a third party tool, we suggest contacting Apple support to further assist you.

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Old Mac formatted photo files need to be opened on my PC.

The files themselves are jpeg, tiff, or psd, but the external drive itself was formatted for Mac. When I set up the external drive it asked whether
to format for Mac or PC. When I attach the External Drive to my PC, the icons for the files showed up on the screen but when I click to open the file
is "not readable". When I took it to a shop, the guy saw the icons on the PC screen and assumed it was ok I guess.
