It's like a car and some other guy complaining about the radio in your car.

There was a big hoohaa in the EU about IE being included in Windows. That's were the N option came from so that there was a pop up to chose various browsers.

Like in most things, follow the money. There is more advertising money to be made in being the default browser / search engine. Mozilla recently swung a big deal with Yahoo to push its search engine. Follow the money, that's what all the whining is about. With Windows 10, it's a little more difficult to become the default browser than before, so it might lose Mozilla some more dollars, hence the whining.

Edge is tightly coupled with Cortana and so far, there is no way to uncouple it. You can't tell Cortana to use IE 11, Firefox, Chrome, etc.

    @Ztruker.

You can set the default browser to Firefox and Cortana will use Firefox to search Bing,

    Hi there

    Sour grapes.

It's like Audi complaining about a feature that is in a BMW car or vice versa. If Mozilla doesn't like what Ms is doing - then do something else or make a BETTER browser.

    It's called Capitalism (and Invention).

As they say "If you can't take the heat stay out of the Kitchen".

    Cheers

  7. He is just complaining about this now? Through all of the Windows versions since the conception of Firefox, Internet Explorer (and now Edge) has been the default browser and this is the first time I've ever read about the Mozilla CEO doing this.

Does he complain to Google since they put Google Chrome as the default browser on Android? No.

Seems like nothing more than crybaby attitude to me.

If you upgrading from a previous version and already have chosen a default browser why change it to a different one? On the upgrade from Windows 7 for most items Microsoft kept my default preferences. All in all I am pretty happy with the Windows 10 upgrade except for some programs that the upgrade adviser stated was compatible but was not, plus the uninstall of my Comcast Norton Security Suite without any warnings.

I presume that as the upgrade is free, Microsoft can flout the EU ruling on browser choice. I wonder if the paid for versions will be the same in the EU.

  11. Things people want.

    1. To be able to choose without being a 10 year grad from tech school.

    2. When one sets default it stays set until one chooses to change it.

    3. NO needless annoying pop ups.

    ---------
I think most users of Windows 10 will choose Edge at first just to give it a try.
If they like it they will keep it as default.

If Mozilla wants all users to know how to make Firefox their default browser just post the method to do so.

On my Windows 7 systems I have chose I.E. 11 as my default browser but I use Firefox 99.9% of the time.
Folks you don't have to use any browser you don't want to use.
Just use Windows default browser to download as many different browsers as you want to.

Will the big boys at the E.U. like Windows 10 Edge methods for default.
Of course not. The E.U. doesn't like anything about Microsoft or Windows.

Like I posted a year or so ago about the E.U. trying to control Windows defaults settings. The E.U. seem to think that users of Windows in the E.U. are not smart enough to make their own choices without the government getting in the way.
Folks all over the world have and will continue to make their own choices with out a bunch of governcraps telling them they are not smart enough.

To my good friends in the E.U. I have faith that you all will be able to figure out how to use Firefox if you so choose.
Your smart enough to download and install a upgrade operating system you will surly figure out how to use your favorite browser.

MS pushes it's own browser. What's so outrageous about that? Whining about how difficult it is to change the default? Oh my. How absolutely awful. And oh so hard to figure out. *cry

Firefox has had major problems with jerky videos in full screen mode now for years, and have done NOTHING to remedy the situation. I've used FF for years now, and am finally migrating to Edge. So, for the CEO of Mozilla to cry "foul" is disingenuous at best. Better if he spends his energy trying to fix his Firefox, and then maybe people will choose his browser over the others.*Tongue

    Just my humble opinion.

    Here is the important bit:
The CNet article was strangely worded ("click bait"?).

Windows has *ALWAYS* reset defaults when you upgrade the OS. The reason is that they need everything to be in a default state. This is nothing new, so the claim that it "now" resets defaults is bogus, Windows 8 did, WIndows 7 did, Windows VIsta Did, XP did...

I don't see what the issue is. I found it very easy to choose my default browser (which is not Firefox).
