Right?? So Apple doesn't have a default? Androids don't have a default?

So many sites these days trying for any clicks they can get. I hope most of you are smart enough to not click something so ridiculous.

Why don't you develop a touch friendly browser, Mozilla, so I can desire to use your product? GTFO!*Tongue

    Hi there

    Agree

Would BMW push FORD or FORD Push AUDI.

Make something BETTER if you want users to be able to use it. Legislation should only be involved if competition is Restricted (mind you APPLE seem to get away with a lot of their own stuff -- you aren't even ALLOWED (legally) to run the APPLE Ios as a VM on other hardware).

As far as the EU commission is concerned -- I don't think they could organize a booze up in a Brewery or a Prayer meeting in the Vatican.

    Cheers

I don't see what's the problem. The "default" program is the program that opens up when you click on a file with the particular extension. Int he case of a browser, if you have a .html file and click on it, your default browser will open up. Alternatively, if you click on a web link in some other program, say in Acrobat, the system will open that web page in the default browser.

Personally, I don't care about it since I don't keep html files and I don't allow Acrobat to access the Internet. Unless that's important, I don't see what's the big deal about the default is. In fact, I never use IE - or Edge, whatever - but I also never change the default, I don't see why would that be important to me.

As to following the money - I believe that's the right reason for them to complain, but since I don't care about other people's money (only about my own money *Wink ) , I am not usually following these "wars of words" and never cared for the N version, even though I live in the EU.

With Android if you use their search engine (Google Now) and it needs to use a browser it asks you which browser you want to use and if you want to make it the default.

Microsoft does give you the option to change the defaults when you set up Windows during an upgrade but it is not that obvious to do because in big type it shows "use suggested settings" and in little type on the other side of the screen it shows "change settings".

I like Firefox but that's not the point - for many users not as skilled as the users of TenForums switching defaults is intimidating and they will stick with the defaults if not given an easy option to switch.

Huh i tell cortona to open google chrome all the time and it does, if i search for something it will open chrome in bing but it works. I don't like the way it opens chrome in bing though as i don't use the bing engine, but oh well one quirk out of none i have had so far is pretty good i would say.

    What version are you running?
I had to re-download Comcast Norton Security Suite after I updated and I am running the same version as before the Windows 10 update 21.7.0/11 plus when I just went to the Comcast page for download of the software it states:

    • Microsoft Windows® XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 or later Home / Professional / Media Center
    • Microsoft Windows Vista® (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter / Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Ultimate
    • Microsoft Windows® 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter / Home Basic / Home Premium / Professional / Ultimate
    • Microsoft Windows® 8 and 8.1

but the software after the install on Windows 10 runs fine.

You don't have to put up with Bing either. There are already Chrome extensions that auto redirect Cortana's bing searches to google, (e.g., bing2google or chrometana).

  12. All Mozilla has to do is update Firefox so it pops up with instructions how to change the default. Microsoft has made it very clear that they are trying to "idiot-proof" Windows 10, and that includes making sure that "SuperDuper Antivirus 2015" can't change the browser to "SuperDuper Browser" with default search page SuperDup.ru without the user's informed knowledge.

That exactly the problem. They would have to make a specialized Firefox and unbranded version for windows 10. The reason the current install works on a lot of windows operating systems not just windows 10. A lot of open source and limited open source won't change the coding to work with windows 10. You would have the same issue with most other browsers.

    10-4 Good Buddy!
    Three cheers!!!

It's only a few mouse clicks, between Edge being the default browser and making Firefox your default browser.
Anyone who's been working with Windows for any length of time at all, should have already made up their own mind, as to what programs they want on their PC and what browser they want to use.
TIP: All those programs should already be on a flash drive or CD.

When I upgraded to Win-10 on my (several) laptops, I had already installed Firefox and made it my Default Browser.
In Windows 10, I clicked the start button, then Settings, then System, then Default Apps......scroll down to Web Browser and then select "Firefox". Job done, just X out of the window.

I don't understand all the angst! Any defaults you don't like, can be changed.
I personally change over a dozen defaults when setting up any version of Windows.

    Cheers mates!
