Waltc, No need to uninstall the firefox x86 release version. Just download the 64 bit developer version. Install it. Choose default profile for x86 firefox when opening up the x86 release version and developer default profile for the developer 64 bit version when opening up the developer version.

  2. For troublemakers like Chrome, I locate the updater file and rename it (i.e. add a # to the start of the file name).

This is good news guys. I've been using x64 Nightly for ages, always running it alongside either x86 FF or x64 Pale Moon (on different machines). I never had any problem with either of them, but it surely feels better to run a "stable" version rather than Nightly that is in principle changed on a daily basis (although I always have automatic updates disabled and update it only every now and then).

Add-ons work for me in all of those browsers, in fact I've always thought that the "argument" that Mozilla put up for not offering a 64-bit version of FF (that is, add-ons don't work, mostly flash and java) is complete BS - Java has had a 64-bit version for ages and Adobe caught up already years ago. Most other add-ons work on Nightly or Pale Moon without a problem, even the ones we're not supposed to talk about.

I was however rather happy to run two different browsers side by side with different profiles. That way, whatever traces various websites leave on my machine (and they do, no matter how hard I try to avoid that)are at least separated (I do not visit my bank's site from the same profile used for general browsing, for example). Hopefully this new version will run alongside Pale Moon as well.

I find that most automatic updates are prompted via the task scheduler so i remove them there.

  7. Hmm, even though I chose Custom Install it installed the Maintenance Service without asking. It didn't seem any faster than 32 bit FF 36.01 to me. Also on a Laptop that dark theme is unreadable. I took it off.

Same here. Besides, once having gone down the Pale Moon route, I haven't looked back. Good support forum too, and it runs more stable than Waterfox in my opinion.

  10. Hi Five Winuser. One interesting thing though. I tried AdBlock Latitude, and I find regular AdBlock Plus 2.6.6 works better (at least in that it renders pages faster on Pale Moon with the "unsupported" AdBlock.

Yep, you're right...and actually I got it backwards...*Wink By default, as you say, the browsers use separate profiles, so you can install them together. But, unless you want to redo everything relative to your x86 profile, like passwords and bookmarks (which I didn't want to do), it's better to simply share the profile of the x86 version, which you can do by simply *un*-checking the default setting in FF-64 DE. Even if you uninstall Ff x86, your profile is still there...but, you could still run them separately and use the sync-profiles feature--though I haven't tried that.

After a few days of using the x64 DE, though, I'm much less rosy about it. On many of the sites I visit suddenly I'm getting a bunch of script errors on the pages I visit (major news sites, etc.) that often crash the browser! I didn't see this much if at all in FF x86--now it is almost predictable despite the build getting updated daily. If it happens again today, I'm going to reinstall x86.

  14. Also remember to check Task Scheduler and Services.
You can often disable auto-updaters in those locations.

  15. Or you can "cheat" and export bookmarks to a .json file. Also with Password Exporter extension you can export and import passwords. The .json works much better than the old export to html. I have all folders on my Bookmarks Toolbar. With backup to .json then Restore in the other browser the folders and all come out fine. No need for SyncPlaces extension anymore.

Edit: I have a few guest OS in virtual machines and using Sync to set up FF and variants gets messy very quickly. It's better just to load the bookmarks .json file etc..
