Windows 10: MP3 files are automatically played by Windows Media Player

I set a DSS player as a default for playing my video and audio files. But it changed to Windows Media Player and I cannot change it back. I want my files to be played by my default app rather than Windows Media Player.

Can't play MP3s in Windows Media Player

Hi all,

Since I've updated the Windows 10 I've been unable to play MP3s via Window Media Player.

When I try and play any MP3, I get the following message:

'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file'

The files worked fine beforehand, and I can also play them via VLC player.

Any suggestions on how to get them working with WMP again?

Method 2: If the above steps do not help, you may try to delete music files directly from the mp3 player, follow the steps below:

To delete music files using the computer, follow these steps:

1. Connect your mp3 player to the computer.

2. Select Open device to view files using Windows Explorer on initial connection.

3. Locate the folder where your music files are stored.

4. Right click and select delete the music files or folder.
