Windows 10: mpam-fe (manual Windows Defender update) is failing to execute

Hello! My computer has been acting strangely and (I guess maybe) has malware, but I've been forum-digging all day to no success. (Specifically, Windows Defender won't turn on (greyed out), and won't perform any kind of scan (button is non-responsive), and that sort of thing.)


The latest windows updates also gets an error:


Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.293.2354.0) - Error 0x80070643


Among other things I tried was to manually download the update (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/definitions), and I downloaded the correct x64 Windows Defender Antivirus for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, but when I click on the downloaded mpam-fe file, the cursor just turns into a blue circle briefly and does nothing. I've tried right-clicking it and running it as administrator, but same thing. No window, no pop up, nothing.

Any idea on why that might be?

Manually downloaded update of Defender fails to execute

When Defender update fails due to inability to download the update, I download the file manually from:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/portal/definitions/adl.aspx

It is an executable MPAM-FE.EXE, but it does not execute. When I click on it, the little blue circle pops for a while and nothing happens.

Running Win10 1511.

Hi,

when trying to update Defender threat definitions I get the following error codes 2147012721, 2147012866 and 2147012894.

I have tried manually downloading the definitions using mpam-fe which does not seem to work also the Windows update troubleshooter which says the following:

Issue found

Potential Windows update databse error detected Detected

Repair Windows update database corruption Not run

Windows update components must be repaired Fixed

Repair windows update components Completed

None of these actions has helped and I am asking for suggestions on how to proceed.
